Job summary

Ayrton Energy in Calgary, Alberta, is seeking a seasoned engineer to design and develop electrochemical stacks for LOHC, focusing on performance, reliability and cost. You will collaborate with manufacturing, QA and R&D, perform CFD/FEA analyses, validate designs, and contribute to IP strategy and project planning.

The role requires a minimum undergraduate degree in related engineering and at least five years in fuel cell or electrochemical stack development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in designing and developing fuel cell, electrochemical or electrosynthetic stacks and components, preferably for commercial applications.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance related to electrochemical technology like electrolyzers or fuel cells.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrochemical stacks for LOHC, including optimizing performance, reliability and cost.
  • Create and validate designs and specifications for cell and stack components
  • Perform detailed cell performance modeling and system trade-offs
  • Utilize CFD and FEA to analyze and improve electrochemical reactor designs for performance and durability
  • Develop and implement component tests and inspection criteria to ensure product quality
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality assurance, and research and development
  • Support the development and protection of LOHC stack IP and assist with patent strategy and filings
  • Collaborate with leadership to define project goals, deliverables, budgets and timelines

Your Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electrochemical stacks for LOHC, including optimizing performance, reliability and cost.

  • Utilize Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis to analyze and improve electrochemical reactor designs for performance and durability
  • Develop and implement component tests and inspection criteria to ensure product quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality assurance, and research and development
  • Support the development and protection of LOHC stack IP, with a focus on strategic patent filing and management
  • Collaborate with leadership team to define project goals, deliverables, budgets and timelines
Your Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years proven experience in designing and developing fuel cell, electrochemical or electrosynthetic stacks and components, preferably for commercial applications
  • Expertise in CFD and FEA tools for performance and structural analysis
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance related to electrochemical technology like electrolyzers or fuel cells
  • Knowledge of advanced materials and/or manufacturing processes for electrochemical technologies
