Oberland Agriscience Inc. is a sustainable black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) farm in Halifax, NS. We are focused on closing the food loop in our region and making a positive contribution to our planet. Oberland’s high performing team rears BSFL in our zero-waste facility and delivers exceptional productivity per hectare yielding a nutrient rich, low environmental impact protein. Partnering with local food producers and distributors, Oberland upcycles organic by-products such as spent grains from your favourite craft brewery to grow BSFL on an industrial scale. Oberland continues to play a role in a more sustainable circular economy in our region. Deploying an organic by-products-to-alternate protein approach, Oberland produces several insect derived products. Oberland generates high quality sustainable protein from larvae and a fertilizer product for home gardens and agricultural lands. #closingthefoodloop The context for the role of Mechanical Technician is to ensure the key production and building systems are operating optimally.
Key Support Person: Maintenance Manager Functional

Key Responsibilities
• Perform daily mechanical rounds to monitor building systems (HVAC systems, pumps, fans, boiler, heat pumps, emergency generators, chiller, etc.), noting any anomalies and prompting investigative/repair work
• Perform scheduled PM activities on facility mechanical equipment and plan/schedule/perform preventative work on equipment
• Trouble-shoot and repair equipment as necessary
• Oversee inventory of spare parts for mechanical systems and order materials for maintenance work as required
• Manage work order system in CMMS for the maintenance of mechanical equipment
• Monitor utility usage and investigate any anomalies, identifying opportunities for energy savings and cost reduction.
• Offer technical training and assistance where required to improve the team's skillset and knowledge in operating mechanical systems
• Participate in maintenance planning activities
• Contribute to the planning and execution of capital projects and facility improvements
• Support the preparation of facility condition reports and help plan maintenance budgets
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with current legislative requirements, company policies, and best practices
• Stay informed about changes in regulations to ensure the facility remains compliant at all times
What we’re looking for:
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial mechanical system maintenance and operations
• Relevant certification or ticket in a technical field (HVAC, building operation, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc.) and building automation systems (BAS)
• Experience working in a CMMS
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach to maintenance
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to team members
• A solid understanding of preventative maintenance systems and the ability to develop and execute maintenance schedules
• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform general physical safely as needed
• Ability to be on feet for many hours of the shift
• Availability to be on-call to perform maintenance as needed
