This Opportunity
The Halifax office of Smith + Andersen is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical BIM Technician. You are qualified in contributing to the design of building services, such as HVAC, Plumbing & Drainage, and Fire Protection, and possess excellent Revit modelling skills. You are a team player who is highly motivated with great communication skills. You will work under the direct supervision of a project engineer or designer and will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of projects including healthcare, commercial, residential, education, and many others.

What You’ll Do- Model and/or design for a single discipline. Prepares drawing packages, including plans, layouts, schematics, and detailed scale drawings using drawings and files and the S+A Prototype standard drawing setup at the onset of a project.
- Produce and/or modify a BIM (Building Information Model) from sketches, mark-ups and/or designs as required by the project team to suit design requirements, consultant changes, scope changes and/or general updates.
- Review models against markups to ensure accuracy of work in the three-dimensional model and resultant two-dimensional drawings.
- Collaborate/communicate with other disciplines’ design changes and model challenges.
- Populate and maintain the parametric database within a model as needed to meet design requirements.
- Identify and discuss interferences or space issues with the project team for resolution and change implementation. This may include three-dimensional analysis using Revit or other software such as Navisworks.
- Prepare submissions for issuance, plotting and archives.
- Control and maintain models in an organized manner in the appropriate project directory system, as per company standards.
- Adhere to office BIM standards and prototype standards, including the project BIM Execution Plan, Level of Development matrix.
- Layout pipes, ductwork, lighting, cable tray, or conduits, and identify clashes. When required, produce schematic drawings and identify sizing requirements.
- Reviews layouts of lighting services for interferences with major building elements such as structure, ceilings, walls, etc.
- Any other BIM tasks required to assist in the completion of working drawings.
Who You Are:- College diploma in Building Information Modelling Program (BIM) or Certified Engineering Technologist program; or a related field with relevant work experience.
- Minimum three years of direct industry experience in mechanical building services.
- Knowledge and experience working with Autodesk Revit 2017 or newer is required, with exposure to mechanical layouts and systems.
- Experience with shared parameters, scheduling, family editing, etc. is an asset.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks Manage, and Dynamo software.
- Knowledge of the installation practices for mechanical systems is an asset.
- Good written and oral communication skills; able to communicate with the design team and external BIM teams or clients.
- Ability to work in an environment driven by project deadlines.
- Knowledge of all Microsoft Office suites, specifically Word and Excel.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Highly motivated with an attention to detail and an ability to accept direction.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work independently, as well as contribute to the team.
