Job summary

The Mosaic Company is seeking a Mechanical Integrity Engineer Co-Op/Intern for Summer 2027 at Mosaic Potash Esterhazy, located in Saskatchewan, Canada. This in-person 36–40 hour per week internship runs May 10th to August 20th, with a 9/80 schedule and housing/relocation support where qualified.

You will investigate failures, inspect equipment, perform design assessments, and apply root-cause analysis to sustain asset integrity; strong teamwork and communication are essential in this role.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Systems Engineering and in good standing by May 2027.
  • GPA of 72% or higher is preferred, with strong analytical abilities.
  • Willingness to work in an industrial chemical and mining setting and travel to sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate failures to determine root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Inspect structures, bins, piping and tanks; perform design assessment via modeling or calculations.
  • Use RCA and 8D/5-Why techniques to troubleshoot issues and improve asset integrity.
  • Evaluate equipment against design specifications and participate in equipment sizing and validation.
  • Support sustainable improvements by identifying maintenance process deficiencies.
  • Mine data to inform historic design methods and assist asset decisions.
  • Communicate with management, operators, engineers, trades, and contractors.
  • Attend department and project meetings and uphold Mosaic's values.

Where will you work:

Mosaic Potash Esterhazy is an underground potash mine located 90 kilometers south of Yorkton. It's split between three mine sites - K1, K2 and K3 - which will be the largest, and one of the world's most competitive underground potash mines in the world. Housing and relocation can be provided for qualified candidates.

Full time Co-Op/Internship. Typically, 36-40 hours a week.

What You'll Do
  • Investigating failures to determine root causes and developing corrective actions
  • Inspecting condition of structures as well as bins, piping and tanks. Inspections could lead into design assessment using computer modeling or hand calculations.
  • Troubleshooting-Using problem-solving techniques such as RCAs, 8-step and/or 5 Why
  • Evaluating equipment comparative to design or similar processes
  • Design/size/validate new or modification of existing equipment
  • Utilize root cause analysis to review significant failures, identify corrective action to prevent re-occurrence and refine asset strategy to sustain improvement
  • Identify deficiencies in maintenance processes and develop sustainable improvements
  • Mine data to identify historic design methods and drawings to assist with ongoing asset integrity decisions
  • Communicate with various levels of personnel throughout the organization, including management, plant operators, engineers (of various disciplines), tradespersons, and contractors.
  • Participation in department meetings and meetings specific to the project assignment.
  • Adhering to Mosaic's mission, guiding principles and priorities, and key competencies.
What You'll Need
  • Third year or above by May 2027 pursuing a bachelor's in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Systems Engineering
  • 72% or higher
  • Ability to function in an industrial chemical and mining environment.
  • 1-2 years of experience volunteering, working with student/school organizations, or work is preferred.
  • Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred.
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license - You will need to be able to travel to and from sites and/or office.
  • Ability to work full timeand be a student in standing at the time of the co-op/internship
  • Selected candidates will be required to successfully complete post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening, background check, physical, functional capacity examination.
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Experience working in a team environment is a must
  • Familiarity with an industrial environment is highly desirable
  • Effective verbal communication skills is a plus
  • Physical work environment is occasionally outdoors with exposure to varying degrees of hot and cold environments
