Mechanical Engineering - Senior Designer

Responsibilities
  • Team leader and ability to lead young professionals with a passion for mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers.
  • Develop a high-performing team and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Prepare deliverables to facilitate project planning and budget control.
  • Prepare the concept design and complete load calculations, schematics, equipment selection and system concept report.
  • Oversee a talented team of mechanical professionals, guiding and development and ensuring top-tier project execution.
  • Review and execute mechanical design and layout.
  • Review mechanical technical deliverables (specifications, datasheets, drawings, etc.).
  • Attend project meetings to coordinate with other disciplines and project consultants.
  • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure compliance with all safety and government regulations.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines internally and externally with consultants and architects.
  • Complete technical reviews and provide recommendations regarding designs and reports.
  • Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of mechanical engineering work.
  • Complete audits of the work that is produced to ensure design is completed with quality and assurance.
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with colleagues and architects, subcontractors, contracting engineers, consultants, co‑workers and clients.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Assist in business development and maintaining existing client relationships.
Qualifications, Experience and Education
  • Post‑secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline.
  • Professional Engineering Designation (P. Eng.) in the Province of Nova Scotia.
  • Minimum 10+ years of industry trade experience.
  • Engineering and/or design coordination experience in the consulting industry would be beneficial.
  • Experience in multi‑disciplined project coordination and management.
Required Skills
  • Require comprehensive knowledge of current engineering principles and practices, complemented with a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices.
  • Experience conducting site visits would be an asset.
  • Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non‑engineer team members in a clear manner.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Engineering standards.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing at all organizational levels, including executives.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of REVIT would be an asset.
