Job summary

AtkinsRéalis invites a Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology student to join the Nuclear Engineering team as a co-op. You will support engineers, designers and managers, contributing to deliverables for nuclear and conventional mechanical systems while gaining hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary environment.

You will review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations and documents, and participate in project coordination meetings.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology program at a Canadian university, college, or polytechnic.
  • Ability to apply fundamentals to practical engineering solutions.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support Engineers, Designers, Discipline Leads & Managers in day-to-day activities.
  • Assist in development and assembly of deliverables for mechanical systems.
  • Support design activities, documentation, and engineering evaluations as assigned.
  • Coordinate with Document Control, Project Management, Procurement, and field teams on task scopes.
  • Review drawings, specifications, calculations, and project documentation.
  • Attend technical and project coordination meetings to support delivery.

As a Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering Technology Student, you will join the Nuclear Engineering team and contribute to innovative projects that support the development and delivery of world‑class nuclear technologies. This co‑op opportunity provides hands‑on experience, exposure to multidisciplinary engineering environments, and the chance to apply mechanical engineering and engineering technology principles in real‑world project settings.

Your Role

Support Engineers, Designers, Discipline Leads, and Engineering Managers in day-to-day engineering and project activities. Assist in the development and assembly of engineering deliverables for nuclear and conventional mechanical systems. Support mechanical design activities, equipment assessments, technical documentation, and engineering evaluations as assigned. Contribute to project execution in accordance with AtkinsRéalis Inc. / Candu Energy Quality Assurance Programs and project requirements. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including Document Control, Project Management, Procurement, and field teams, on assigned task scopes. Collaborate with members of the nuclear team to support workflow, document reviews, and Request for Information (RFI) activities. Assist with reviewing engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and project documentation. Attend technical and project coordination meetings to support project delivery. Promote a positive team environment while contributing to engineering and project management activities.

About You

Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology program at an accredited Canadian university, college, or polytechnic institution. Ability to apply mechanical engineering or engineering technology fundamentals to develop practical solutions. Understanding of mechanical systems, engineering drawings, and technical documentation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment. Familiarity with engineering analysis, design, or drafting tools such as MATLAB, MathCAD, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, or similar software is considered an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
