Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada is seeking a mechanical engineer with nuclear industry exposure to perform design work for reactor components across conceptual to detailed stages. You will develop calculations, drawings, BOMs, and design specifications, ensuring compliance with codes and budgets.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in mechanical engineering, GD&T experience, and are licensed or eligible for P.Eng in Ontario.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in mechanical engineering from a recognized university.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience applying GD&T.
  • Experience in classical stress calculations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Mathcad, or similar tools.
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed as Professional Engineer in Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual, preliminary and detailed mechanical design engineering work for reactor components to applicable codes, standards and procedures.
  • Conduct and/or lead conceptual, preliminary and detailed phases of engineering work.
  • Prepare and review technical documents including calculations, drawings and BOMs.
  • Support technical leads and management in development, planning and scheduling.
  • Define work scope, respond to technical questions, and monitor progress.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies such as TSSA and CNSC as required.
  • Perform design reviews and verifications; support field construction and commissioning activities.

Your role
  • Perform conceptual, preliminary and detailed mechanical design engineering work for reactor components to applicable codes, standards and procedures meeting quality, budget, and schedule expectations.
  • Conduct and/or lead conceptual, preliminary and detailed phases of the engineering work for reactor components.
  • Prepare and review technical documents, such as: technical calculations, engineering drawings and bill of materials, design specifications, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications (for procurement, fabrication, and site installation), code classifications, commissioning specifications, etc.
  • Support the technical leads and management in the development, planning, and scheduling the work.
  • Support new proposals, procurement engineering, manufacturing, qualification, and installation of the items and components designed.
  • Define own work scope, prepare responses to technical questions, communicate to client as needed, monitor and report progress on own work.
  • Prepare and review TSSA registration packages for pressure boundary designs and modifications.
  • Interface with the regulatory bodies, such as: TSSA and CNSC, as required.
  • Perform design review and design verification for the design and engineering work done by others.
  • Support field construction and execution activities, such as: field changes, design revisions, commissioning, Advanced Fuel Cycle, and closeout packages for EC revisions, etc.
  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters.
About You
  • A bachelor'S or master's degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experienced in the application of GD&T.
  • Experience in classical stress calculation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Mathcad, or similar programs to perform calculations.
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed as Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
