Your Role and Responsibilities

ABB Measurement & Analytics Plant in Quebec is a world leader in spectroscopy. Our contract engineering service is the largest Canadian supplier of space optical sensors, used for monitoring greenhouse gases and global weather forecasting. Our plant is known for developing and manufacturing products that meet various industrial analysis needs daily.

As part of a large engineering department, you will contribute to a dynamic, multidisciplinary team as a mechanical engineer within the opto-mechanical team. Your responsibilities include the design, manufacturing, and commissioning of product development projects. The ideal candidate is passionate, curious, enjoys teamwork, and has achievements in new product design.

  • Design instruments in compliance with requirements, costs, and deadlines.
  • Optimize manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, bending, 3-D printing, etc.).
  • Verify and seal plans according to geometric tolerancing standards.
  • Document mechanical designs, establish tolerancing budgets, and inspection plans.
  • Supervise assembly, commissioning, and testing of prototypes.
  • Participate in design reviews and client presentations at key milestones.
  • Assist in planning and technical proposals (estimation).
  • Support production occasionally.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in mechanical engineering with 5-10 years of experience in complex systems development; optical systems knowledge is an asset.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, heat, and surface treatments.
  • Understanding of geometric tolerancing principles.
  • Experience with structural and thermal FEA (asset).
  • Experience with aerospace instruments or harsh environments (asset).
  • Knowledge of high-pressure standards (ASME) or explosive environments (ATEX) (asset).
  • Member of OIQ.
  • Bilingual in French and English; French is required, English for communication outside Quebec.
