Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a leading mining equipment manufacturer in Kimberley. You will design, develop, and improve heavy machinery, from concept through prototyping to production support, ensuring reliability, performance, and safety in demanding mining environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years in mechanical design of heavy machinery.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor).
• Experience with FEA and simulation tools.
• Knowledge of materials science, thermodynamics, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Experience with welding, machining, fabrication.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in project teams.
• Good written and verbal communication; mining experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and systems for heavy mining machinery.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs using CAD software.
• Perform engineering calculations, including stress analysis and fatigue life prediction.
• Select materials and manufacturing processes for high-wear applications.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to optimize for production and assembly.
• Develop and execute test plans for prototypes and equipment; analyze results.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues during manufacturing, testing, or in the field.
• Contribute to product improvements from customer feedback and data.
• Ensure designs comply with safety standards and regulations.
