Base pay range

CA$90,000.00/yr - CA$115,000.00/yr

Our client, a design practice comprising architects, urban planners, interior designers, engineers, and landscape architects, is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer out of their Toronto office. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid position, paying between CA$90,000 and CA$115,000 per annum, in addition to RRSP matching, parental leave top-up, competitive health and dental benefits, reimbursement of professional dues, and a generous vacation allowance.

How you'll make a difference:

  1. Manage, coordinate, and prepare documentation from schematic design to construction documents.
  2. Design HVAC, plumbing, fire protection systems, heating, and cooling systems across various sectors, including commercial, institutional, healthcare, sports & recreation buildings.
  3. Work with architects, interior designers, structural engineers, and electrical engineers to create integrated and innovative design solutions.
  4. Manage high-quality contract documents for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and controls systems.
  5. Synthesize energy modelling, building information modelling, value engineering, and life cycle costing to determine optimal mechanical system solutions.
  6. Perform engineering studies including analysis, condition assessments, and renewal planning, and develop technical reports and presentations.
  7. Carry out day-to-day project management.
  8. Maintain and lead internal design standards.
  9. Deliver technically sound and thorough mechanical solutions in an integrated environment.
  10. Develop innovative mechanical systems that promote sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and wellbeing.
  11. Lead and support junior staff through delegation and technical guidance.

Who you are:

  1. A Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  2. Registered professional with building code stamping authority is preferred.
  3. 4+ years of experience with HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and heating/cooling systems for commercial and institutional buildings.
  4. LEED accreditation is considered an asset.
  5. Experience with BIM software (REVIT) is preferred.
  6. Strong understanding of schematic design, design development, contract documents, and contract administration.
  7. Experience with load calculations, detailed design calculations, psychrometrics, and equipment selections.
  8. Experience with engineering studies and condition assessments.
  9. Experience in specification writing.
  10. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  11. Collaborative, team-oriented, and knowledge-sharing attitude.
  12. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
