Job summary

wood in Hamilton is seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer/Engineer to join its growing building services team. You will prepare electrical design drawings for power, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems, and support projects from concept to construction.

The role requires 3–6 years in a consulting environment, proficiency with AutoCAD or Revit, and a solid understanding of the Ontario Electrical Code. Collaboration with mechanical, structural, and architectural teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• 3–6 years in a consulting engineering environment (building design).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario Electrical Code and standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare electrical design drawings and documentation for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
• Support projects from concept through to construction, including design development and tender packages.
• Perform load calculations, panel schedules, and lighting layouts.
• Coordinate with mechanical, structural, and architectural teams for integrated design solutions.
• Participate in client meetings and internal design coordination sessions.
• Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and assist during construction administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare electrical design drawings and documentation for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems
• Support projects from concept through to construction, including design development and tender packages
• Perform calculations including load calculations, panel schedules, and lighting layouts
• Coordinate with mechanical, structural, and architectural teams to ensure integrated design solutions
• Participate in client meetings and internal design coordination meetings
• Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and assist during construction administration phases
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
• 3–6 years of experience within a consulting engineering environment (building design)
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
• Strong understanding of Ontario Electrical Code and relevant standards
• Experience working on residential, commercial, or institutional projects
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
