Job summary

SearchLabs in Ottawa is seeking an Electrical Designer to support the development of electrical building systems from early design through construction. You will collaborate with engineers, architects, and other consultants to deliver integrated building solutions and ensure coordination across disciplines.

The role targets professionals with at least two years of experience in electrical building services, proficient in Revit and AutoCAD, and capable of coordinating with multidisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• 2+ years of electrical building services experience in design or consulting.
• Diploma or degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related building services discipline.
• C.E.T. designation or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
• Experience using Autodesk Revit for electrical layouts and building systems design.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD; exposure to AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks Manage, and Dynamo is an asset.
• Familiarity with electrical distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, or audiovisual systems.
• Ability to perform or support electrical load and lighting calculations.
• Understanding of applicable Canadian building codes and electrical standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop electrical building system designs in accordance with codes, standards, and project requirements.
• Prepare electrical layouts for lighting, power distribution, equipment, and electrical rooms.
• Complete electrical load calculations and support equipment sizing and selection.
• Develop lighting layouts and coordinate electrical systems with architectural, structural, and mechanical designs.
• Produce and update electrical models and drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
• Review multidisciplinary models and drawings to identify clashes and coordination issues.
• Participate in BIM coordination, model reviews, clash resolution, and model quality checks.
• Coordinate design requirements with architects, engineers, consultants, suppliers, and manufacturers.
• Review electrical services for conflicts with ceilings, structure, millwork, etc.
• Assist with preparation and review of technical documentation and drawings.
• Participate in project and technical meetings as required.
• Support construction administration through shop drawing reviews, site visits, field reviews, change notices, and responses to queries.
• Communicate project and design status to project managers and senior team members.
• Contribute to internal quality control and maintain project documentation.

Position: Electrical Designer - Building Services

The Opportunity

As an Electrical Designer, you will support the design and development of electrical building systems from the early design stages through construction. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, architects, mechanical and structural consultants, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

The role is well suited to an electrical building services professional with at least two years of industry experience who is looking to take on increasing responsibility, strengthen their technical capabilities, and grow within a collaborative consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical building services, ideally within a consulting engineering or design environment.
• Diploma or degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related building services discipline.
• C.E.T. designation or equivalent experience is considered an asset.
• Practical experience with electrical building systems and multidisciplinary building coordination.
• Experience using Autodesk Revit for electrical layouts and building systems design.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD; exposure to AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks Manage, and Dynamo is an asset.
• Familiarity with electrical distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, communications, or audiovisual systems.
• Ability to perform or support electrical load and lighting calculations.
• Understanding of applicable Canadian building codes and electrical standards.

Compensation Transparency
