Location and Working Arrangement

This role is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and requires a reliable high-speed internet connection for remote work.

Summary of Position

As part of the design team, this role will focus mainly on the design of the mechanical systems for pharmacy automation devices. The incumbent may also be involved in the design of other sub-systems as required.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and contribute to product development activities, including component selection, mechanical architecture, and integration of components and sub-systems into complete assemblies.
  • Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidEdge and/or SolidWorks.
  • Apply advanced SolidWorks experience to develop robust, optimized designs.
  • Optimize designs for cost, quality, manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and product longevity.
  • Collaborate closely with testing, software, and cross-functional teams to support and coordinate validation and verification activities.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including engineering reports, specifications, and change records.
  • Support physical installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of prototypes and mechanical assemblies during testing phases.
  • Follow established development processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical support for customer-driven projects and product enhancements.
  • Contribute to proposal development by offering design input, concept sketches, and preliminary feasibility assessments.
  • Assist with project scheduling and budget tracking as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • Experience in one or more of the following: medical devices, robotic systems, industrial automation, process design and control, electromechanical systems, systems engineering, sheet metal design.
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and cost-reduction methodologies.
  • Practical, applied experience with GD&T per industry standards.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Experience working in regulated environments (cGMP, FDA, ISO) is an asset.
  • Proficient computer skills and strong documentation practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable with the use of basic hand tools and hands-on prototype work.
Education and Experience
  • Mechanical Engineering degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience, or in the process of obtaining a Mechanical Engineering degree.
  • 3–5 years of mechanical design and product development experience are required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Sedentary physical activity requiring reaching, sitting, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, and hearing.
  • Visual requirements are for close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • 75% or more of the time is spent looking directly at a computer.
  • The associate is frequently required to stand, walk (or otherwise be mobile).
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations as they arise.
