Job Description

Build something that matters.

At Delta Star the work we do has a real impact. Every transformer we build helps deliver reliable electricity to homes, businesses, and communities across North America.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for people who want more than just a job. We are looking for individuals who want to learn, contribute, solve challenges, and build a meaningful career alongside a team that is committed to delivering power at all times.

Summary

Delta Star Inc. is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of mechanical components for medium-voltage mobile power transformers and mobile substations. If you are passionate about quality, precision, and creating innovative design solutions that meet customer expectations, we would love to hear from you!

What You'll Do

As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a key role in creating and maintaining mechanical designs that support transformer production. From developing 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings to assisting production teams and ensuring design accuracy, you will contribute to delivering high-quality products that meet industry standards and customer requirements.

A Day in the Life

As a Mechanical Designer, you will create and modify 3D core and coil models using our Engineering Automation Platform (EAP), ensuring all designs meet Delta Star standards and project requirements. You will prepare detailed shop drawings, develop internal connection diagrams, and design woodwork structures and lead routing using Autodesk Inventor.

You will also generate material usage files for ERP integration, support manufacturing by resolving drawing-related issues, and collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams. As you gain experience, you will expand your responsibilities to include external transformer component layouts, tank drawings, and programming support for plasma cutting and wood-routing equipment.

Specific Duties
  • Create and update 3D core and coil models using EAP while ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Produce detailed shop drawings for manufacturing and verify drawing accuracy and completeness.
  • Design internal woodwork structures and perform 3D lead routing using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Develop internal connection diagrams based on transformer specifications and nameplate information.
  • Generate material usage files to support ERP analysis and material procurement.
  • Provide drafting and design support to production by addressing missing dimensions, details, and drawing revisions.
  • Assist with the design of external transformer components and tank drawings.
  • Support programming activities for plasma cutting and wood-routing machines.
  • Participate in design reviews with customers, consultants, production, quality, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical drafting and design support to various departments, customers, and suppliers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
What We're Looking For

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented professional with strong experience in mechanical design, drafting, and 3D modeling within a manufacturing environment.

Position Requirements
  • College diploma (DEC), AEC, technical diploma, or equivalent training in Mechanical Design Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience in mechanical design, drafting, or 3D modeling, preferably in industrial equipment, transformers, or heavy manufacturing.
  • Strong proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD software.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and manufacturing requirements.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality drawings and models.
