Job summary

Pioneer Transformers, part of the ERMCO Group, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to independently design and optimize transformers and related components in Mississauga. You will collaborate with manufacturing, QA, supply chain, and sales to ensure successful integration of designs into production.

We value candidates with 5+ years of transformer-design experience, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, and FEA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on transformer or related product design.
  • Proficiency with design and analysis tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, FEA).
  • Ability to interact with, maintain, and update ERP data related to engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, IEC, CSA and DOE regulatory requirements for transformers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with independent work capability.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design and develop transformers and related components, ensuring standards compliance and customer specs.
  • Perform analyses to optimize product performance, cost, and efficiency.
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions to improve quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, QA, supply chain, sales, and customer service to integrate designs into production.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure alignment with requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed design docs, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to keep designs competitive.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation in design processes.
  • Mentor junior engineers as needed.

Your Mandate As a Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for the independent design, development, and optimization of transformers and related components. As a fully competent engineer, the Design role involves applying well-established expertise to complete tasks and projects with minimal supervision. This role includes collaboration with cross-functional teams and occasional mentoring of less experienced engineers. The Design Engineer contributes to product performance, efficiency, and customer satisfaction while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

  • Independently design and develop transformers and related components, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, CSA) and customer specifications.
  • Conduct engineering analyses to optimize product performance, cost, and efficiency.
  • Perform detailed failure analysis on design-related issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to improve product quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, supply chain, sales, and customer service to ensure successful integration of designs into production.
  • Participate in design reviews to provide technical input and ensure that designs meet project and customer requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Stay current with industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure product designs remain competitive and compliant.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, promoting innovation and efficiency in the design process.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance as needed, though leadership is not a primary focus of this role.
Qualifications
We are looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • More than 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on transformer or related product design.
  • Proficiency with design and analysis tools, including mechanical and thermal analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, FEA).
  • Ability to interact with, maintain, and update ERP system data related to engineering processes.
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, CSA) and regulatory requirements (e.g. DOE) for transformers and related components.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Experience conducting failure analysis and implementing corrective actions for design-related issues.

The annual salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $100,000.
