Niagara Energy Products is the leader in the field of manufacturing radiation shielded containment vessels for nuclear contaminated waste and spent used nuclear fuel.

NEP is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Designer to join the engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to build internal customer relationships at various levels within the organization. This position is based out of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The incumbent will be responsible for engineering calculations, liaising with engineering subcontractors and clients, reviewing engineering deliverables, preparing engineering fabrication packages and other process documentation for the manufacturing of heavy custom fabrications. They will be responsible for creating SolidWorks models and drawings from rough sketches or client drawings and specifications, as well as completing material take-offs. The successful candidate must work in conjunction with Production, Quality, and Sales departments to create and sustain a positive, high-energy continuous improvement environment while meeting customer schedules and specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

• Work in an Engineering environment with other designers in collaboration with a team of Professional Engineers and Technologists.
• Assist NEP’s engineering team in billable and capital projects.
• Generate conceptual designs as well as detailed drawing packages.
• Produce BOM’s and material requisitions.
• Design fixtures and other mechanical components to improve / automate plant operations.
• Liaison effectively with NEP’s vendors, suppliers and clients.

Position Requirements :

• An Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent experience in a technical / manufacturing field.
• 4-6 years of experience in Custom Fabrication / Manufacturing ; experience in the Nuclear industry will be an asset.
• Experience in preparing procedures and specifications.
• Experience working with SolidWorks and PDM Vault data management is a must.
• Experience in basic FEA; hand calculations.
• Ability to model in CAD and produce technical drawings of company products using SolidWorks (including Weldments and Sheet Metal).
