Job summary

Fundy Engineering in New Brunswick is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our multi-disciplinary team, delivering in-house mechanical building services design across Atlantic Canada.

You will lead design activities, develop 3D BIM and AutoCAD drawings, coordinate with MEP and other disciplines, ensure codes and quality standards, and contribute to energy modeling and energy-code compliance.

Qualifications

  • Professionally engineer- or technologist-qualified with building services experience.
  • Bachelor's in mechanical engineering or equivalent; licensure or eligibility required.
  • Relevant registration with provincial bodies or eligibility to register.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and standards for NB.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team and manage priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication for diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

Fundy Engineering is recruiting for an Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic team.

Role Description

Reporting to the Building Systems Lead mechanical engineer, the Mechanical Designer will be responsible for participating in overseeing and coordinating system engineering and design projects from inception to completion. Your expertise will be crucial to achieving project goals and ensuring seamless execution. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients to deliver exceptional results on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the assigned mechanical design team in various system engineering and design projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to project teams, guiding them through each phase of the project lifecycle.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks and resources to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration with stakeholders to ensure alignment and understanding.
  • Facilitate regular meetings, provide status updates, and address any concerns or questions that arise.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement solutions proactively.
  • Ensure all project records are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
  • Working as part of a collaborative team developing 3D BIM (Building Information Modeling) and AutoCAD drawings;
  • Coordinating work with the MEP design team and other disciplines, including architectural, structural and civil;
  • Setup and manage drawing sets ensuring all drawings and deliverables are reviewed and checked to comply with project and company quality standards;
  • Provide quality control for completeness and adherence to company and client drafting standards;
  • Develop and maintain whole-building energy models for new and existing buildings.
  • Perform energy analysis in support of building design, energy-code compliance, and high-performance building targets.
Your Qualifications

Within the field of mechanical building services, you are an experienced professional engineer (P.Eng.) or professional technologist (P.Tech) with a relevant educational background. You have a track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget. Your exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities help you to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing circumstances. Your excellent verbal and written communication skills allow you to convey technical information clearly and concisely to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Years of relevant work experience in the field of mechanical building services.
  • Bachelor of engineering or applied science in mechanical engineering or equivalent; Registration or eligibility for registration with Engineers New Brunswick; or
  • Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent; Registration or eligibility for registration with New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.
  • Full understanding of provincial building codes and standards.
  • Ability to work well independently or within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex environment with multiple projects and clients.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable problem-solving skills.
