Job summary

AVL Manufacturing Inc. in Hamilton is seeking a Mechanical Designer to deliver full cycle mechanical designs and drawings for Genset enclosures, fuel tanks, and modified containers from concept to final product.

The role requires hands-on CAD work, collaboration with process, electrical, and applications teams, and strong attention to detail for manufacturability and structural integrity. Travel across North America may be required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering and design experience in a fabrication and assembly work environment. Must be able to demonstrate accuracy in structural analysis, fluid flow calculations, and engineering reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with SolidWorks CAD software is mandatory. Advanced knowledge of sheet metal modeling, welded assemblies, welding symbols, pipe and conduit routing. Knowledge of SolidWorks FEA module is a plus.
  • Experience working with electromechanical systems requiring deep knowledge of how components interact, wiring schematics, and control strategies.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and cooling systems, standard fittings, component fastening, and hardware.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel primarily in North America but potentially abroad
  • P.Eng Designation an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Create and design for manufacturability sheet metal, welding, and complex assemblies using SolidWorks.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines (i.e. process, applications, and electrical) to create designs that integrate power, electromechanical, and mechanical systems and that factor in environmental conditions for end users.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs and applications.
  • Provide testing, load ratings, and detailed structural analysis using finite element (FEA).
  • Provide external technical support to new and existing customers through field visits, customer meetings, and design reviews.
  • Provide internal technical support to the shop floor including interpretation of internal and customer drawings and specifications.
  • Manage multiple projects with short-term and competing deadlines at any given time.
  • Estimating, including material selection and Bill of Material (BOM) creation.

Job Summary:
