Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to perform conceptual and detailed design work for CANDU reactor components. You will prepare drawings, calculations, and technical documents while adhering to codes, standards, and project schedules.

The role requires 3–6 years of mechanical design experience, proficiency in stress analysis, and strong communication. Ontario licensure or eligibility is expected. Hybrid work is available in Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from a university of recognized standing.
  • Candidate to be licensed or soon eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • Mechanical design experience 3 to 6 years.
  • Experience in classical stress calculations.
  • Experience in working following codes, standards and procedures.
  • GD&T experience is an asset.
  • Proven record of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good time management and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work for CANDU reactor components to applicable codes, standards and procedures.
  • Prepare design documents, technical reports, calculations and drawings.
  • Support proposal preparation, design engineering, testing, procurement, manufacturing and installation support.
  • Prepare responses to technical questions from reviewers or clients.
  • Report progress to leads and managers.
  • Develop information and prepare technical documents such as drawings, bill of materials, calculations and specifications.
  • Assist in preparing registration packages for pressure boundary designs.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies as required (e.g., TSSA and CNSC).
  • Perform reviews and design verifications for others' work per qualifications.

Your role
  • Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work for CANDU reactor components to applicable codes, standards and procedures.
  • The design activities include but are not limited to the preparation of design documents, technical reports, including technical calculations and drawings.
  • Supervised by senior engineers, while adhering to project plans and schedules, conduct phases of engineering work such as supporting proposal preparation, design engineering, testing, procurement, as well as manufacturing, and installation support.
  • Prepare responses to technical questions, from reviewers or clients.
  • Report progress on day-to-day work to leads and managers.
  • Develop information and prepare technical documents, such as: engineering drawings and bill of materials, calculations, design specifications, design assessment, design requirements, design manuals, technical specifications (for testing, fabrication, and site installation), etc.
  • Support the technical supervisor leads in preparing registration packages for pressure boundary designs.
  • Support the technical supervisor in interfaces with the regulatory bodies, such as: TSSA and CNSC, as required.
  • Perform reviews and design verification for the design and engineering work done by others, per qualifications.
About you

This is a mechanical engineering position, in the area of CANDU nuclear reactor and major components design. The requirements for this position are:

  • Bachelor'S or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.
  • Candidate to be licensed or soon eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Mechanical design experience 3 to 6 years.
  • Experience in classical stress calculations.
  • Experience in working following codes, standards and procedures.
  • Trained and experienced in the application of GD&T'is an asset.
  • Proved record of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven record to work independently and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Proven record for strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Drive for continuous learning.
