Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is a leading Canadian private nuclear engineering group with over 60 years of experience. This role focuses on designing and evaluating process systems for nuclear power plants, including thermalhydraulic analyses and technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree required and P.Eng in Ontario.
  • 12+ years in process-system design/analysis, preferably for CANDU plants.
  • Experience with nuclear power plant procedures and codes is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design solutions for new, updated, and modified process systems, structures, and components.
  • Prepare/review design documents (Calculation, Requirements, Specifications, Drawings, BOMs).
  • Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems and lead project tasks.
  • Mentor engineers and interface with stakeholders to meet project delivery dates.

Overview

Your role

The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide design solutions and assessments for new, updated and modified process systems, structures and components.
  • Prepare and/or review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants; e.g., Design Calculation, Design Requirements, Assessments, Technical Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, and System Code Classification.
  • Perform thermalhydraulic evaluations on complex systems.
  • Provide leadership to team on assigned tasks, ensure adherence to project delivery requirements and schedule.
  • Prepare and/or review Engineering Quotation Request and Tender Technical Evaluations.
  • Prepare and/or review Engineering packages.
  • Perform walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.
  • Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality program.
  • Provide support for the preparation of Engineering proposals.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to engineers.
About You
  • Engineering degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Science.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in process-system design/analysis, preferably providing design solutions for CANDU nuclear power plants.
  • Experience performing work to nuclear power plant procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plant engineering activities is an asset.
  • Experience in nuclear process system design and layout.
  • Experience performing heat balance and thermalhydraulic evaluations.
  • Experience leading/mentoring teams.
  • Site experience in construction, or commissioning of plant mechanical systems for nuclear or other heavy industries is an asset.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design (e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flomaster, NUCIRC, CATHENA or similar).
  • Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards, including CSA N285.0 and ASME Section III.
  • Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA B51 standard, ASME B31.1 codes and other nuclear‑power‑plant applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
