Job summary

Eaton in Milton, Ontario is seeking a Mechanical Assembler (AFT) to build large switchboard structures largely by hand using hand and power tools, following engineering drawings. The role reports to the Production Manager - Custom Switchboards and requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to handle heavy lifting and active safety practices.

Qualified candidates will have a High School diploma and at least 12 months in mechanical assembly with torque tools, plus good English

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; additional technical training preferred.
  • Minimum 12 months of mechanical assembly experience with power tools.
  • Experience using torque tools is required.
  • In Canada, eligible to work without sponsorship; must reside within 80 km of Milton.

Responsibilities

  • Build large switchboard structures and internal subassemblies from pre-fabricated parts.
  • Mount and brace parts and subassemblies inside structures.
  • Construct custom skids using power tools and fasten to drawings.
  • Ensure correct torque and fastener methods per spec.
  • Identify design issues and report through proper channels.
  • Visually inspect parts for quality and conformance.
  • Repair or rework issues discovered during inspection or testing.

Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.What you’ll do:Reporting to the Production Manager - Custom Switchboards, this position constructs large steel switchboard structures largely by hand using hand/power tools, ladders, machines, jigs/fixtures and other manufacturing equipment. Candidates require excellent mechanical aptitude, experience using torque tools, good ability to communicate in English, and the physical ability to perform the work (includes heavy lifting, prolonged periods of standing and frequent use of awkward postures such as bending, kneeling and overhead reaching).There is no wiring (electrical assembly) in this role.Specifically, the successful candidate will:Build large switchboard structures and internal subassemblies using pre-fabricated metal parts (steel and copper), following engineering schematics and electrical drawings.Mount and brace parts and subassemblies inside structures.Construct custom skids using power saw and nail gun.Ensure use of proper hardware, correct torque and consistent fastening methods.Identify design issues and raise them through the correct channels.Visually inspect parts and material for conformance to quality standards and customer specifications.Modify parts using machines and power tools.Repair or rework issues detected during the inspection/test stage of the job.Qualifications:Required (Basic) Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent additional experienceMinimum 12 months experience in mechanical assembly using power tools.Experience using torque tools.Legally eligible to work in Canada without company sponsorship now and in the future.No relocation is offered for this position.
