Job summary

City of Stratford is seeking a Mechanic-Leadhand to supervise and perform maintenance and repairs on transit and City vehicles at an on-site Stratford, ON facility. You will diagnose, repair, and replace faulty parts while maintaining PM schedules and inventory records.

Reporting to the Fleet Operations Manager, you will coordinate with staff and external contacts, respond to emergencies, and ensure safe, compliant operations in line with municipal policies.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School Diploma.
  • Ontario Truck and Coach Technician Certificate of Qualifications (31OT).
  • Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualification (31OS) is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiar with electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Class B CZ) with a good driving record.
  • Ability to work according to designated shifts.
  • Able to perform heavy lifting with various levels of standing, climbing, sitting, crouching.
  • Prepared to update qualifications and attend training seminars.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and repair transit vehicles and City of Stratford vehicles and equipment by diagnosing, repairing or replacing damaged parts.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of Transit and City of Stratford vehicles and equipment, including diesel/gas engines, brakes, steering, and transmissions.
  • Maintain PM schedules and order parts; keep repair and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with sales representatives, staff and external contacts.
  • Move equipment safely in and out of the work area and respond to emergency calls when vehicles break down in service.
  • Prepare and maintain written work records such as parts lists and inspections sheets.

Job description

Department/Division: Fleet Operations / Transit
Location: On-Site (Stratford, ON)
Duties:

Reporting to the Manager of Fleet Operations, the Mechanic-Leadhand whileact as the first point of contact as well as performs maintenance and repairsof Transit vehicles and City of Stratford vehicles and equipment.

Work Peformed:

Inspect and repair damaged and malfunctioning transit vehicles and equipment bydiagnosing, repairing or replacing damaged and defective parts.

Inspect and repair damaged and malfunctioning City of Stratford vehicles andequipment by diagnosing, repairing or replacing damaged and defective parts.

Perform all maintenance and repair of Transit and City of Stratford vehiclesand equipment, including diagnosis and correction of problems with diesel and/orgasoline engines, automatic transmissions, brakes, steering and other vehiclecomponents in accordance with prescribed procedures.

Coordinates with sales representatives, staff and other external contacts.

Adjusts equipment, repairs or replaces defective parts, components or systemsusing hand or power tools.

Fabricates parts when necessary.

Maintains garage equipment and PM schedules.

Repair gas, diesel and propane equipment.

Receives daily work orders.

Order parts and keeps inventory, repair and maintenance records.

Supports, monitors and performs vehicle inspections in accordance with provincial,municipal requirements to ensure completed safely and inline with City policy.

Move all types of equipment in and out of work area in a safe manner.

Responds to driver inquiries in a timely manner.

Responds to emergency calls when vehicle breaks down while in service.

Deals with sales people or vehicle representatives.

Prepare and maintain written work records such as parts lists and inspectionsheets and maintain acccurate records and completion of tasks .

Ensuring work is carried out in a safe and timely manner..

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Secondary School Diploma.

Valid Ontario Truck and Coach Technician Certificate of Qualifications (31OT).

Valid Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualification (31OS) is an asset.
