Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking an Apprentice Mechanic to join our maintenance team. You will assist with inspection, maintenance, and repair of heavy‑duty diesel trucks and equipment, gaining hands‑on experience and laying the foundation for a career in the trade.

Under guidance from licensed mechanics, you will learn diagnostic and repair processes, keep the shop safe and organized, and contribute to timely maintenance tasks using fleet software.

Qualifications

  • Registered 310T Apprentice or working toward trade certification.
  • Interest in mechanics and willingness to learn diagnostics and repair.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Safety-conscious and able to meet safety standards for sensitive positions.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools; follow shop safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed mechanics with inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of heavy‑duty diesel trucks and equipment.
  • Participate in training and mentorship to learn mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Keep the shop area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Learn to complete work orders, parts requests, and maintenance logs using fleet maintenance software.
  • Follow safety policies and regulatory guidelines in the shop.
  • Maintain and safely use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Follow lead mechanics and management instructions to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Perform other shop or operational duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Licensing/Education:Registered 310T Apprentice (or working towards trade certification).
