Job description

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Foreman, the incumbent acts as the primary resource to ensure the reliability of the mining site's equipment. They are responsible for the inspection, preventive and corrective maintenance, as well as the diagnosis and repair of mobile (heavy and light) and stationary plant equipment. The mechanic must demonstrate exceptional versatility, actively participating in related tasks such as welding, inventory management and operational support while maintaining rigorous health, safety and environmental standards.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Mechanical Component (Mobile and Stationary)
    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mobile equipment fleet (loaders, trucks, excavators, light vehicles) and stationary equipment (crushers, conveyors, screens, dust collectors).
    • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical failures; determine required parts and execute repairs.
    • Inspect and commission new equipment arriving on site.
    • Perform welding and cutting work to repair or modify parts and metal structures.
    • Collaborate on industrial mechanical work and provide assistance during minor electrical tasks.
  • Management and Administration
    • Use CMMS to complete work orders, document repairs and track maintenance schedules.
    • Manage inventory of mechanical parts, lubricants and workshop supplies; prepare requisitions for product orders.
  • Operations and Support
    • Start up compressors and auxiliary equipment per operational needs.
    • Show flexibility to temporarily relieve plant or mobile equipment operators as needed.
    • Maintain organization and impeccable cleanliness of the mechanical workshop and work environment (5S).
  • Health and Safety (OHS)
    • Strictly apply Lockout/Tagout procedures prior to any intervention.
    • Participate in safety meetings, Job Safety Analyses and site safety improvement projects.
    • Inspect and maintain safety equipment (machine guards, emergency stops and dust collection systems).
Qualifications and Skills
  • Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics, Industrial Mechanics, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of maintenance experience, ideally in mining, quarry or sandpit sector.
  • Welding experience a major asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of hydraulic systems and diesel engines.
  • Ability to read mechanical and hydraulic blueprints.
  • Computer literacy, especially in using CMMS software.
  • Versatility and resourcefulness: ability to work independently and find creative solutions using available resources on a remote site.
  • Exemplary attitude toward occupational health and safety (zero tolerance for risky behaviors).

Work site: Mining site in Fermont, Northern Canada. Physically demanding work involving noise, dust, varied postures, work at heights and outdoors under diverse weather conditions.
