Job summary

South Country Co-op in Medicine Hat, AB is hiring a friendly Meat Clerk to join the Northlands Food Store. You will assist with packaging, pricing, merchandising, and displaying meat, poultry, and seafood while delivering exceptional customer service.

Reporting to the Meat Manager, the role emphasizes food safety, cleanliness, and accurate labeling. Prior meat or deli experience is preferred, and training is available for advancement within the department.

Qualifications

• Retail experience, particularly in meat or deli preferred.
• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Knowledge of ordering/receiving is desirable.
• Strong integrity and work ethic.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide professional service.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exceptional customer service and provide product knowledge, including cooking and preparation recommendations.
• Maintain attractive, well-stocked displays of fresh, smoked, frozen, and value-added meat products.
• Wrap, weigh, label, and price meat products accurately for sale.
• Assist in the preparation of value-added products, including sausage and hamburger patties.
• Support inventory management through stock replenishment, inventory counts, product rotation, and reporting out-of-stock items or customer requests.
• Monitor product quality, markdowns, shrinkage, and spoilage to support department operations.
• Receive, inspect, and properly store product deliveries in accordance with food safety and temperature-control requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized department, including displays, coolers, freezers, equipment, and storage areas.
• Ensure all food safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures are followed at all times.
• Assist the Meat Manager with daily department operations and contribute to the overall success of the team.
• Other duties as assigned.
