Job summary

Piston Automotive Canada, part of the Piston Group, is seeking a Materials Technician to assemble, route, and manage printed material and related goods. You will oversee forklift operations, lead a small team of forklift operators, and ensure accurate receiving, shipping, and record-keeping while maintaining professional supplier and customer communications.

  • Two years of experience in materials/shipping and receiving preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required, including reading freight bills and ladings.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and process material requests for projects and activities.
  • Review documents and purchase requests for accuracy and processing.
  • Operate gas or electric forklift safely and lead forklift operators.
  • Perform cycle counts and monitor FIFO in the warehouse.
  • Prepare information and reports; maintain shipping records and ASN transmission.
  • Contact customers, suppliers and carriers; maintain professional relationships.
  • Administrative duties and file/record keeping as required.

Job description

The Materials Technician is responsible for assembling and routing various types of printed material accurately and timely by performing the following duties.

Pay Rate - $27.80 This is a new position.

Responsibilities
  • Receives, reviews, and processes requests for materials, supplies, and equipment needed for specific projects and general activities.
  • Determines accuracy of paper work by closely reviewing pertinent information on documents and purchase requests that are sent to Procurement.
  • Rechecks quantities and condition of materials delivered and takes corrective action when appropriate; verifies receipt of shipments when original invoice is received and certifies invoices for payment.
  • Prepares information and reports as required.
  • Must follow the procedure and safely operate a gas or electric fork-lift to move, stack, load and unload material within the facility.
  • Serves as Team Leader to fork-lift operators.
  • Keep and retain shipping and receiving records and documents as required.
  • Exemplify leadership abilities that encompass minimum supervision authorities.
  • Perform routine cycle counts of parts and or components.
  • Monitor, reinforce and audit FIFO.
  • Leads and Assigns Forklift Operators
  • Administrative duties as required.
  • Good communication skills
  • Produce system shipper or manual shipper for all outbound freight. Transmit ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) systematically.
  • Contact customers, suppliers and carriers as required and maintain professional relationships.
  • Develop forms as required for follow-up purposes.
  • Stage. Load or transport material and containers as needed.
  • File / record keeping.
  • Receive inbound material via PLEX and CMMSIII (as required).
  • Report shortages of components and finished goods.
  • Review plant layout to ensure all containers and materials are placed in proper location.
  • Facilitate and lead 5-S activities.
  • Monitor and update truck board.
  • Monitor and respond to Plex monitor.
Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Materials Technician/Shipping and Receiving Clerk or a related role
  • High School diploma or GED is preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience with basic computer skills
  • A minimum of one year of experience reading freight bills, and bill of ladings.
  • One year of experience communicating effectively with others in a work environment
  • One year of experience working with basic math skills in a work environment (ability to perform inventory cycle counts as needed)
  • One year of current experience as a Forklift Driver
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

One-year certificate from college or technical school preferred

One year of experience reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position will have minimum exposure to weather conditions, and assembly area noise levels are moderate to loud.
