Job description

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Receiving Facilities Manager to lead the safe and efficient movement of recyclable and waste materials between Receiving Facilities across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Waste operations will focus on supporting movement of material from the Otter Lake receiving facility and recycling operations will coordinate with more than 20 receiving facilities across NS and NB to our new processing facility in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This leadership role is responsible for overseeing transportation operations, optimizing logistics performance, managing drivers, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in fleet and transportation management, preferably within the recycling, waste management, or industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation & Operational Management

• Oversee daily transportation operations of 15+ drivers, including dispatch, routing, scheduling, and fleet coordination to ensure timely collection and delivery of waste & recyclable materials.
• Optimize transportation routes and load planning to maximize operational efficiency and minimize costs.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with receiving facilities, depot managers, suppliers, and internal operations teams.
• Monitor transportation performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives across logistics operations.

Additional Duties As Assigned Below

• Daily reporting to MRF & Otter Lake General Manager.
• Productivity reporting to management through GPS reports
• Interviewing drivers and helpers
• On route safety observations
• Morning startup presence for majority of drivers
• Other duties as assigned.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure full compliance with all applicable transportation regulations, environmental legislation, licensing requirements, and health & safety standards.
• Promote a strong safety culture through regular driver meetings, safety observations, training, and incident prevention initiatives.
• Monitor driver hours, records, and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and operational readiness.

Driver & Team Leadership

• Recruit, train, supervise, and support drivers, dispatchers, and transportation staff.
• Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment focused on safety, reliability, and customer service
• Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and ongoing development for transportation personnel.

Fleet & Equipment Management

• Oversee fleet maintenance programs, inspections, preventative maintenance schedules, and repair coordination for trucks, tractors, trailers, and related transport equipment.
• Be the primary point of contact between the maintenance group and the operations group for transfer equipment needs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet management, preferably within the recycling, waste management, or industrial sectors.
• Proven experience leading and supervising transportation teams, including drivers and dispatch personnel.
• Strong working knowledge of provincial and federal transportation regulations, including driver hours of service, safety compliance, and fleet standards across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
• Experience managing fleet maintenance programs, including preventative maintenance, inspections, and coordination with maintenance teams.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety, with experience promoting and enforcing safe work practices and conducting safety observations.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with transportation or fleet management systems (e.g., GPS tracking, dispatch software) is considered an asset.
• Valid driver’s license; experience with commercial driving regulations or licensing (i.e., Class 1) is an asset.
• Willingness and ability to travel periodically between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as required.
