Thyssen Mining is actively seeking a Material Sourcing Manager to work in Regina, SK, Toronto, or Sudbury, ON in-office. This role leads strategic sourcing, procurement of materials, parts, consumables, and services to support mining projects and operations.

You will develop sourcing strategies, manage supplier relationships, negotiate terms, monitor performance, and ensure on-time delivery while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance. Bilingual French/English required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Commerce, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in sourcing, procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management.
  • Strong experience sourcing materials, parts, consumables, operational supplies, and related services.
  • Bilingual in French and English, with strong written and verbal communication in both languages.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating supplier pricing, supply agreements, and commercial terms.
  • Strong understanding of strategic sourcing, procurement best practices, contract management, and supplier relationship management.
  • Experience within mining, industrial, construction, or similar environments is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/procurement systems; Business Central is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for materials, parts, consumables, operational supplies, and services.
  • Identify, qualify, and evaluate suppliers based on pricing, quality, availability, capability, lead times, and reliability.
  • Lead competitive sourcing processes, including RFQ, bid evaluations, and supplier negotiations.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, warranties, service levels, and other commercial terms.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through competitive sourcing, volume purchasing, supplier consolidation, and preferred-supplier agreements.
  • Monitor market conditions, material availability, pricing, and lead times affecting operations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, service providers, and mining vendors.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, pricing, responsiveness, and contracts.
  • Support supplier contracts, service agreements, and supply agreements; provide recommendations on renewals and terms.
  • Ensure suppliers meet insurance, safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, Finance, and other departments to align material requirements.

Job description

Thyssen Mining is currently seeking a Material Sourcing Manager to work out of our office either located in Regina, SK, Toronto or Sudbury, ON. This is an in-office position.

The Material Sourcing Manager is responsible for leading the strategic sourcing and procurement of materials, parts, consumables, operational supplies, and services required to support mining projects and operations.

The role develops and executes sourcing strategies, establishes strong supplier relationships, negotiates competitive commercial agreements, monitors supplier performance, and identifies opportunities to improve cost, quality, availability, and service. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, Finance, and other internal stakeholders, the Material Sourcing Manager ensures material requirements are effectively sourced and available to meet project schedules and operational demands. Bilingual proficiency in French and English is required.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Materials Procurement
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for materials, parts, consumables, operational supplies, and services.
  • Identify, qualify, and evaluate suppliers based on pricing, quality, availability, capability, lead times, and reliability.
  • Lead competitive sourcing processes, including requests for quotation, bid evaluations, and supplier negotiations.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, warranties, service levels, and other commercial terms.
  • Identify cost-saving and cost-avoidance opportunities through competitive sourcing, volume purchasing, supplier consolidation, and preferred-supplier agreements.
  • Monitor market conditions, material availability, pricing, and lead times that could impact operations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, service providers, and specialized mining vendors.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, pricing, responsiveness, and contractual commitments.
  • Address supplier performance issues and work collaboratively to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Support the negotiation and administration of supplier contracts, service agreements, and supply agreements.
  • Provide recommendations regarding contract renewals, amendments, pricing structures, and commercial terms.
  • Ensure suppliers meet applicable company requirements relating to insurance, safety, quality, and compliance.
Operational & Project Support
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Project Management, Finance, and other departments to understand current and upcoming material requirements.
  • Coordinate sourcing activities supporting underground mining projects and ongoing site operations.
  • Support project mobilizations and maintenance programs by ensuring required materials and supplies are sourced within operational timelines.
  • Expedite critical materials and supplies when required to minimize potential operational disruptions.
  • Balance price, quality, availability, delivery, and operational requirements when making sourcing recommendations.
Cost Analysis & Reporting
  • Analyze material spend by supplier, project, and purchasing category.
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing leverage and achieve more competitive commercial terms.
  • Track sourcing savings, cost avoidance, supplier performance, and contract status.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations and proposals to support informed sourcing decisions.
  • Prepare reports on sourcing activity, supplier performance, costs, and savings for management.
Procurement Systems & Administration
  • Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, sourcing, and contract information within Business Central and applicable procurement systems.
  • Ensure sourcing decisions, negotiations, quotations, and supplier agreements are properly documented.
  • Support continuous improvement of procurement processes, sourcing practices, and supplier-management standards.
  • Promote consistent sourcing and procurement practices across projects and operations.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
