Job summary

Thyssen Mining is seeking an Engineer / Project Controls to support project planning, scheduling, cost control, forecasting, reporting, and coordination for underground mining and construction projects. The role collaborates with Project Management, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement teams to deliver safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting mining, construction, heavy industrial, or engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of scheduling, cost control, forecasting, and project reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and MS Office skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Project Controls & Cost Management: Monitor costs, budgets, forecasts, and expenditures; track labour, equipment, materials, subcontractor costs, and commitments; analyze variances, productivity, and risks; maintain cost reports and forecasts; support earned value analysis and monthly reporting.
  • Scheduling & Progress tracking: Develop and update project schedules; monitor planned vs actual progress; identify schedule risks; prepare look-ahead schedules, progress reports, and recovery plans.
  • Engineering & Technical Support: Support planning, execution, and technical problem-solving; review drawings and specifications; assist with scopes, work packages, and execution plans; coordinate with site operations.
  • Reporting: Prepare daily, weekly, monthly project controls reports; maintain documentation and dashboards; provide cost, schedule, productivity, and variance analysis; coordinate across teams.
  • Safety & Complaince: Promote safety standards and regulatory compliance; participate in risk reviews and planning; ensure records and reporting are accurate.

Thyssen Mining is seeking an Engineer / Project Controls professional to support project planning, scheduling, cost control, forecasting, reporting, and coordination for underground mining and construction projects. The role works closely with Project Management, Operations, Engineering, and Procurement teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities
Project Controls & Cost Management
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts, and expenditures.
  • Track labour, equipment, materials, subcontractor costs, and commitments.
  • Analyze cost variances, productivity, and financial risks.
  • Maintain project cost reports, forecasts, and change management documentation.
  • Support earned value analysis and monthly financial reporting.
Scheduling & Progress tracking
  • Develop, maintain, and update project schedules.
  • Monitor planned vs. actual progress and key milestones.
  • Identify schedule risks, delays, and constraints.
  • Prepare look-ahead schedules, progress reports, and recovery plans.
Engineering & Technical Support
  • Support project planning, execution, and technical problem-solving.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with project scopes, work packages, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate engineering requirements with site operations and stakeholders.
  • Analyze project performance, production forecasts, and project controls data.
Reporting
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly project controls reports.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and dashboards.
  • Provide cost, schedule, productivity, and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate information between Operations, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management teams.
  • Support project startup, execution, risk management, and closeout activities.
Safety & Complaince
  • Promote Thyssen Mining’s safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in project risk reviews and planning activities.
  • Ensure project records and reporting requirements are accurate and up to date.
Qualifications
  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting mining, construction, heavy industrial, or engineering projects.
  • Strong knowledge of scheduling, cost control, forecasting, and project reporting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Underground mining or construction experience.
  • EIT or P.Eng. designation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, Primavera, or similar scheduling tools.
  • Familiarity with Power BI and project reporting/dashboard software.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Deswik, or other engineering/mining applications.
