Job summary

The Senate of Canada is seeking a Materiel Logistics Officer to manage daily warehouse operations, shipping/receiving, and furniture restoration services. You will track inventory, custody, storage, and location of assets and uniforms, ensuring accuracy and timely replenishment.

This one-year determinate position supports the Property and Services Directorate. Applicants must have post-secondary education with a relevant certification or equivalent experience, plus experience in inventory

Responsibilities

• Accountable for day-to-day operational data of warehouse operations including shipping/receiving and furniture restoration services.
• Monitor lifecycle functions of Materiel Management in warehouse and ensure safe receipt, storage, and stock recording.
• Maintain inventory location, replenishment, and accurate asset management for Senate assets and uniforms.

How will you contribute?

The Materiel Logistics Officer is accountable for the day-to-day operational data of warehouse operations involving shipping and receiving and furniture restoration services. The position monitors the life cycle function of Materiel Management in the warehouse shipping and receiving areas and the furniture restoration services, by ensuring the safe receipt, storage, custody, warehousing, shipping, stock recording, replenishment and location of Senate operational and heritage assets as well as uniforms.

Prerequisites

• Post-secondary education and a certification in installation or trade services OR an acceptable combination of post-secondary education with relevant experience;
• Experience in the handling, moving, protection, storage and transportation of furniture;
• Experience in client service delivery methods and techniques to provide a high-quality front-line service;
• Detail oriented, well organized, and able to coordinate and multitask competing priorities and timelines;
• Experience in preparing summary reports and identifying solutions in support of operational requirements;
• Experience in full life cycle processes related to materiel management activities such as inventory, compliance and disposal is considered an asset;
• Experience in inventory administration and material management processes and procedures, including maintaining oversight of stock levels and inventory controls for material assets within a Distribution Centre, is considered an asset;
• Experience applying standard operating procedures in shipping and receiving environments, including the safe operation of specialized equipment and tools, as well as proper material handling, lifting, and carrying techniques, is considered an asset.
• Certification for the operation of forklifts is considered an asset.

Physical Effort

The position requires bending, reaching, lifting and standing for extended periods of time related to physical inventory tasks. Applicants must meet the physical requirements of the position to be considered qualified. The nature of the work is physically demanding. It requires climbing stools and ladders and ending to check inventory in storage and move items in and out of storage. When stocking shelves and loading and unloading trucks, items of up to 35kg must be lifted. The work also requires operating self-propelled materiel handling equipment such as forklifts.

Physical Environment

The work is conducted in two separate physical environments, the loading dock and warehouses the work is conducted in a working environment where there is constant noise from materiel being unloaded from trucks and moved to the warehouse using various materiel handling equipment. Depending on operational needs, the candidate may be asked to work in all buildings occupied by the Senate of Canada.
Sensory Attention
There is a required for sensory attention when ensuring accuracy when entering data in the databases and the need to react quickly to signals when operating materiel handling equipment, while moving heavy and bulky loads or while loading and unloading trucks, as well as to respond to verbal warnings to prevent injury and accidents.
