Job summary

The Senate of Canada is seeking an Accommodation and Tenant Services Officer (Interior Designer) to provide interior design services for office accommodation and space planning, including moves and renovations, across the Senate. You will support tendering and specify furnishings, coordinating with other service areas to meet client needs and Senate Standards.

Open to the public for one determinate full-time position (18 months); internal candidates have priority.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in an Interior Design program or Interior Decorator OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
• Three (3) years of experience in applying project management to gather and meet client and corporate requirements.
• Knowledge of interior design concepts, space management and optimization.
• Knowledge of space planning, design development, ergonomic and environmental considerations, tendering process, project management, interior installations and post-occupancy management.
• Knowledge of negotiation techniques to obtain consensus among diverse project participants.
• Knowledge of budgeting and financial practices to develop and present project budgets and control expenditures.

Responsibilities

• Support tendering processes (e.g., signage) and develop specifications for furniture and finishes (e.g., draperies).

How will you contribute?

Reporting to a Tenant Services Coordinator, the Accommodation & Tenant Services Officer (Interior Designer) is accountable for providing interior design services and advice to Senators and Senate Administration staff on office accommodation (including office moves) and space planning projects, including the planning, management and implementation of interior design projects for new, renovated, and occupied space. The Interior Designer is also accountable to support tendering processes (e.g., signage) and develop specifications for furniture and finishes (e.g., draperies). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the coordination of work from other Senate Administration services areas, under the leadership of Tenant Services Coordinators, to ensure that the different aspects of project delivery are met on schedule and in accordance with the requirements of clients and Senate Standards.

The general public to staff one (1) determinate full-time position of eighteen (18) months in the Property and Services Directorate.

Internal candidates will be given priority.

• Knowledge of concepts and methods related to space planning, layout, and design development, ergonomic and environmental considerations, project documents, specifications for furniture, finishes, and furnishings, tendering process, project management, interior installations, and post‑occupancy management;
• Knowledge of negotiation techniques to obtain consensus among the diverse project participants, with various clients, suppliers and service providers;
• Knowledge of financial techniques and practices to develop and present project budgets, cost benefits, and alternatives, and totrack and control project expenditures
