Job summary

Qualifications

How will you contribute?

As the Advisor, Open-Source Intelligence Monitoring, you will collect, monitor, validate and analyze information from a wide range of publicly available and authorized sources. You will assess information, identify patterns and emerging threats, and connect new findings with existing intelligence to identify potential risks affecting senators and the Senate institution.
You will transform complex information into clear and timely intelligence briefings, security assessments, threat and risk analyses, and other intelligence products. Based on your analysis, you will provide advice and recommendations on emerging threats, potential impacts and appropriate mitigation measures, while supporting investigations, protective security activities and parliamentary travel.
Working closely with Investigations and Risk Management and other security and intelligence partners, you will support situational awareness and identify matters requiring further investigation. You will also contribute to strengthening the Senate’s OSINT capabilities by identifying emerging methodologies and tools and recommending improvements to intelligence processes and practices.

Prerequisites

• University degree in intelligence studies, security studies, criminology, political science, international affairs, law, journalism, data analysis, information studies, or another related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
• Significant experience in open-source intelligence collection, research, monitoring and analysis, or in intelligence, security, investigative, law-enforcement, public-safety or risk-management environments;
• Experience with threat assessment, protective intelligence, investigations or security operations;
• Experience producing intelligence reports, briefings, assessments and situational awareness products for decision-makers;
• Experience conducting social media monitoring, digital investigations, link analysis, social network analysis or online research, and working with multiple information sources to identify patterns, trends, risks and emerging threats;
• Extensive knowledge of open-source intelligence methodologies, tools and analytical techniques, as well as knowledge of threat assessment and protective-intelligence principles;
• Knowledge of online threat environments, including harassment, fixation, doxing, foreign interference, misinformation, disinformation, extremism and coordinated hostile activity;
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, research and problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and the ability to assess incomplete, conflicting or rapidly evolving information;
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment;
• Graduate studies in a relevant discipline, and experience working in a parliamentary, legislative, government, intelligence or security environment, would be considered assets.
