Job summary

The Town of Oakville is seeking a Master Instructor to provide instructional art classes in drawing, painting and printmaking for children, youth and adults. This part-time position requires independence, curriculum development, and the ability to work with diverse audiences.

Master instructors will develop program-specific curricula, lead lessons, and ensure safe, creative, and inclusive activities. A satisfactory criminal record check dated within 30 days is required for employment.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary Visual Arts program
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary visual art
  • Experience developing lesson plans
  • Previous teaching experience in an educational setting
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is required for instructing children’s programs ages 4-12 years
  • Ability to work with diverse audiences and independently

  • Provide a positive learning and recreational experience for all participants.

Job Responsibilities

To provide instructional art classes in a drawing and painting to children, youth and adults in a studio arts. Must be an independent, reliable individual able to work with minimal supervision and expected to assist in developing curriculum.

Master instructors are responsible for developing program specific curriculum, preparing and teaching classes to ages 3+ in any of the following media:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Printmaking
Master instructors will:
  • Prepare, lead and deliver visual art classes to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program
  • Assist in the research and development of appropriate arts programming for beginner and practicing artists, ensuring that art activities are safe, creative, and inclusive of all program participants
  • Provide a positive learning and recreational experience for all participants
Qualifications
  • Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in Visual Arts or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated abilities and a strong knowledge of contemporary visual art
  • Familiar with a broad range of artistic techniques, practices and materials with one or more of the following interests/skills: painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, mixed media.
  • Experience developing lesson and activity plans
  • Previous teaching experience in an educational setting
  • Strong organizational, planning, time management and leadership skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work independently
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is required for instructing children’s programs ages 4-12 years.

Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) is a unique multi-purpose recreation, arts and culture facility located in Oakville, Ontario. QEPCCC offers many drop-in and registered recreational, cultural and aquatic programs, including a studio drop-in program and memberships, and an exhibitions program.
