Job summary

Town of Oakville is seeking instructors to deliver drawing and painting classes for children, youth and adults at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC) in Oakville, Ontario. This part-time position is contracted by course appointment, with 1 to 8 hours weekly.

Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary Visual Arts program; strong knowledge of contemporary visual art; able to develop lesson plans; previous teaching experience; High Five PHCD required

Qualifications

• Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in Visual Arts or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of contemporary visual art.
• Familiar with painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, or mixed media.
• Experience developing lesson and activity plans.
• Previous teaching experience in an educational setting.
• Strong organizational, planning, time management and leadership skills.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences.
• High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) required for ages 4-12.

Job Responsibilities

To provide instructional art classes in a drawing and painting to children, youth and adults in a studio arts. Must be an independent, reliable individual able to work with minimal supervision and expected to assist in developing curriculum.

Master Instructors Will

• Prepare, lead and deliver visual art classes to meet the needs of all participants registered in the program
• Assist in the research and development of appropriate arts programming for beginner and practicing artists, ensuring that art activities are safe, creative, and inclusive of all program participants
• Provide a positive learning and recreational experience for all participants

Qualifications

• Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in Visual Arts or a related discipline
• Demonstrated abilities and a strong knowledge of contemporary visual art
• Familiar with a broad range of artistic techniques, practices and materials with one or more of the following interests/skills: painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, mixed media.
• Experience developing lesson and activity plans
• Previous teaching experience in an educational setting
• Strong organizational, planning, time management and leadership skills
• Ability to be flexible and adapt instructional practices to diverse audiences
• Ability to work independently
• HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is required for instructing children’s programs ages 4-12 years.

This position requires a satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector screening check dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment. Candidates who are under the age of 18 at the time of hire will only be required to provide a criminal record check.
