Job summary

VTRAC Consulting Corporation (WBE) is seeking a Market Specialist to support energy-market operations and data-driven decision making. You will drive demand response initiatives, participate in market participation, and translate interval data into actionable improvements for enterprise projects.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Coordinate participation in IESO Capacity Auction, including resource availability, testing, dispatch communications, and settlement validation.
• Manage operational activities for utility, LDC, and DR initiatives.
• Oversee customer enrollment, program readiness, event participation, and post-event reporting.
• Evaluate interval meter, dispatch, and program data to uncover trends and root causes, and recommend improvements.
• Develop and implement operational enhancements based on program results.
• Prepare performance summaries and market-related reports for customers and management.
• Act as primary operational contact for customer concerns related to program participation.
• Maintain accurate program records and support cross-market activities during peak periods.

Description

Are you looking to join a fast-moving team where data, technology, and grid performance come together?

As a Market Specialist, you’ll help drive Energy solutions (demand response programs), support market participation, and turn energy data into smarter operational decisions.

You’ll work closely with commercial and industrial customers as well as internal teams to manage DR activities throughout the program lifecycle. This role combines energy-market operations with data analysis and customer support, making it well suited to someone who enjoys working with interval and operational data and translating findings into practical process improvements. This full-time position offers a competitive salary and a chance to work with enterprise projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate participation in the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) Capacity Auction, including resource availability, testing requirements, dispatch communications, and validation of settlement results.
• Manage operational activities for utility, LDC, and regional demand response initiatives.
• Oversee customer enrollment, program readiness, event participation, and post-event reporting.
• Evaluate interval meter, dispatch, and program-performance data to uncover trends, investigate performance gaps, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and implement operational enhancements based on program results.
• Prepare clear performance summaries and market-related reporting for commercial and industrial customers, internal stakeholders, and management.
• Act as a primary operational contact for customer concerns related to program participation.
• Maintain accurate program records and provide cross-market support during peak periods, including assistance with forecasting, participation monitoring, and implementation of evolving market and program requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years of professional experience within energy management (demand response, electricity markets, energy management, grid services), or a closely related area of the power sector.
• Practical understanding of the IESO electricity market, particularly demand response participation and dispatch processes.
• Strong analytical capabilities with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience supporting utility/LDC demand response programs is an advantage.
• Ability to communicate technical and operational information effectively to customers and internal stakeholders, with strong written communication and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with SQL, Python, BI platforms, or reporting automation tools is considered an asset.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or another relevant technical discipline; an electrical engineering or power systems background is considered an asset.
