Reporting to the Manager of Centralized Pricing, the Market Risk Analyst is accountable for ensuring commodity price data accuracy and governance, end-to-end: vendor data, to aggregation method, to ETRM application. Additionally, the Market Risk Analyst is responsible for supporting trading operations for the end of day process and PnL risk reporting. This position plays a key role in the overall control framework and functions of Middle Office (Market Risk) and the multiple commodities that define Cenovus business activities.

Reporting to the Manager of Centralized Pricing, the Market Risk Analyst is accountable for ensuring commodity price data accuracy and governance, end-to-end: vendor data, to aggregation method, to ETRM application. Additionally, the Market Risk Analyst is responsible for supporting trading operations for the end of day process and PnL risk reporting. This position plays a key role in the overall control framework and functions of Middle Office (Market Risk) and the multiple commodities that define Cenovus business activities.
The successful candidate possesses a demonstrated willingness to learn, supported by advanced analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally while working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
What you’ll do:
- End-to-end delivery of commodity pricing from data provider to aggregation point, and to consuming application (ETRM)
- Accountable for working closely with Front, Middle and Back Office staff to ensure accurate commodity pricing for mark-to-market and exposure reports
- Responsible for adding commodity prices curves and associated referential data for new business activities
- Advance the use and adoption of open source (R/Python) and data visualization tools, data management, reporting, and analytics
- Deliver multi-commodity independent price verification on internal and external market data and create concise explanatory visuals
- Streamline the commodity price reporting portfolio by validating required pricing across Downstream and Finance organizations and consolidate reporting into a visualized format
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
- Bachelors degree in a numeric field (Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Economics/Econometrics, Computer Science, Geophysics, Engineering)
- Minimum 2 years of analytical experience in a role supporting Market Risk, Commodity Trading or Middle Office
- Prior knowledge and use of Commodity Pricing Repository (MarketView) is an asset
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with operational knowledge in analytical or visualization tools such as R, Python, VBA, and Power Bi.
- Developing proficiency with ETRM and applications.
