Job summary

GE Vernova seeks a Marine Systems Support Engineer to serve as the technical authority aboard RCN vessels, bridging field operations and design teams. The role splits between hands-on troubleshooting at shipyards or bases and designing modifications to maintain fleet readiness.

The candidate will monitor component lifecycles, draft ECPs with CAD, and perform root-cause analyses to improve system reliability. Halifax, NS-based with relocation support.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Marine, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent military training/certification).
  • Minimum 5 years of field service experience, ideally in marine propulsion or industrial power generation systems.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with PLC programming, control systems, and high‑voltage power distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site technical guidance for maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of propulsion and power systems during sea trials, dockside repairs, and refits.
  • Act as the voice of the customer by partnering with internal design engineering teams to influence product designs and serviceability.
  • Monitor lifecycle of system components; identify End‑of‑Life hardware/software; develop mitigation plans to maintain system integrity.
  • Draft and manage Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and review technical specs for system integration using CAD tools.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of failures and translate findings into engineering design improvements.
  • Ensure shipboard systems are documented to the latest standards and meet safety/regulatory requirements.
  • Execute planned preventative maintenance and guide naval staff on equipment lifecycle management.
  • Maintain records and technical reports per GE Vernova and DND standards.
  • Adhere to maritime safety, naval security, and OHS standards in confined shipboard environments.
  • Provide technical SME support to RCN engineers, project managers, and shipyard contractors.
