Job summary

How will you contribute to our success as a Marine Electro-Technician?

  • The Electrician is responsible to the reports directly to the Chief Engineer. The Chief Engineer may delegate direction of the Electrician to the Second Engineer from time to time, or specific maintenance procedures.
  • The Electrician is responsible for the maintenance of all electrical equipment on board ship, the periodic cleaning and upkeep of electrical motors and switchboards and for recommending preventive major maintenance or repair to avoid unscheduled failures of electrical equipment and thus avoid delays.
  • The Electrician is responsible for ensuring that all sources of emergency power and emergency systems are always fully serviceable. In particular, the Electrician must establish a regular test schedule for the emergency power supply system, including the automatic start system for the emergency generator. All such tests shall be properly recorded.
  • The Electrician is responsible for carrying out timely repairs and/or replacement of bulbs to ensure that there is adequate lighting in all working areas including the decks, cargo holds, tunnels and machinery spaces.
  • The Electrician shall work in co-ordination with the Chief Engineer in the operation of the self-unloading machinery for each cargo discharge, to monitor all control and alarm functions, to set and maintain load rates and to operate the discharge, tunnel and loop belts as directed.

Knowledge of English is necessary for this role due to daily interactions with colleagues, clients and partners who are mainly located outside Quebec and in order to understand regulatory requirements and technical instructions and specifications.
