Marine Construction Health & Safety Field Officer

Job Overview

WSP is seeking a field-based Health & Safety Officer to oversee daily health and safety during marine construction projects in BC, Canada. Reporting to the Construction Manager, the officer will be part of the WSP field team. The role is expected to start in June 2025 and run until February 2026 , with potential for extension. The position operates on a rotation basis : two weeks on, two weeks off, at a remote site near Squamish, BC. Travel to the site is paid for by WSP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all HSE legislation, regulations, standards, and client requirements.
  • Work in the field on a rotation basis, including day and night shifts, with boat travel required.
  • Set a safety example through attitude, conduct, and compliance.
  • Maintain project-specific safety programs, work plans, JSAs, and permits.
  • Serve as the primary contact for site safety activities and suspend unsafe operations.
  • Implement hazard reduction measures and participate in safety meetings.
  • Conduct inspections, report incidents, and lead investigations.
  • Participate in client meetings and safety reporting.
  • Enforce PPE use and maintain safety equipment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of marine construction health and safety experience.
  • Valid First Aid certificate or ability to obtain within two weeks.
  • Valid BC CSA SiteReadyBC training or ability to pass.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to work in client and third-party environments.
  • Attention to detail and awareness of discrepancies.
  • Must wear PPE, including respirators if required.
  • Valid full Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs on marine vessels.
