Marine Construction Health & Safety Field Officer

Job Description

WSP is seeking a field-based Health & Safety Officer to oversee day-to-day health and safety during marine construction projects in BC, Canada. Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Health & Safety Officer will be part of the WSP field team. The position is expected to start in June 2025 and run until February 2026, with potential for extension.

This opportunity involves a rotation schedule of two weeks on-site and two weeks off, at a remote project location near Squamish, BC. Travel to the site is paid for by WSP.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with HSE legislation, standards, and project-specific requirements.
  • Work in the field on a rotation basis, including day and night shifts, with travel by boat required.
  • Set a positive safety example, conduct reviews of safety programs, and serve as the initial contact for site safety activities.
  • Implement hazard controls, participate in safety meetings, inspections, and investigations.
  • Maintain safety records, participate in safety committees, and enforce PPE use.
Qualifications
  • Minimum three years of marine construction health and safety experience.
  • Valid First Aid certificate or ability to obtain within two weeks.
  • Valid BC CSA SiteReadyBC training or ability to pass.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Proven safety culture development experience.
  • Effective in technical safety communication and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid full Class 5 driver’s license and ability to climb and traverse marine vessels and structures.
