Job summary

New Flyer in Winnipeg seeks a Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor to lead engineering activities in assigned cells and drive lean initiatives across production. You will implement ECNs, create shop floor instructions, and coordinate capital upgrades to support efficient manufacturing.

The role requires a degree in engineering or related technical training, Lean certification, and experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Lean certification or equivalent Lean experience.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a team player.
  • Skills in AutoCAD or UniGraphics, and strong Microsoft Office abilities.
  • Good communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Travel required: up to 10%

  • Provide manufacturing engineering supervision to ensure cells are properly supported.
  • Collaborate to meet operational metrics and pursue remedial actions.
  • Maintain updates on manufacturing engineering tasks and attend relevant meetings.
  • Design or specify equipment/tooling/racking to support manufacturing.
  • Review ECNs and support production implementation within cells.

Job description

POSITION GOAL

Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor supports all manufacturing engineering activities within assigned manufacturing cell(s) including implementing and facilitating lean manufacturing initiatives, implementing ECN's, assigning inventory locations, conducting contract reviews, creating shop floor instructions, evaluating standards, and completing capital and facility upgrades. Coordinate, lead, and support swat team activities.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Provide manufacturing engineering supervision, ensuring that manufacturing cells are properly supported
  • Work effectively as a team member to ensure operational metrics are achieved and any remedial action is actively pursued
  • Maintain current updates on manufacturing engineering related tasks.
  • Represent manufacturing engineering at appropriate meetings and events
  • Design or specify any equipment/tooling/racking required to support manufacturing.
  • Ensure relevant engineering change orders (ECNs) are properly reviewed within assigned cells or assigned option groups and support all aspects of production implementation
  • Ensure default locators are assigned to all parts within assigned manufacturing cells
  • Create shop floor instructions and hot sheets and train the necessary personnel on those standards
  • Update and maintain layouts (plant & cell layouts and inventory, housekeeping, emergency, & security maps etc.)
  • Specify and facilitate capital and equipment upgrades, installations, or modifications
  • Implement and facilitate lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, value stream mapping, set-up reduction etc.)
  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement and teamwork
  • Lead or participate in SWAT team meetings, ensuring that necessary action is taken between cross-functional groups to resolve issues
  • Conduct process observations to ensure that assigned time standards are fair and consistent
  • Maintain necessary resource plans for ensuring production activities are properly resourced
  • Validate routings and submit and implement routing change requests to process planning where appropriate
  • Conduct contract reviews prior to contract start to ensure production preparedness
  • Participate in Non-Conforming Parts (NCP) meetings as assigned, to assist with the disposition of non-conforming materials
  • Support process planning, production engineering and initiate engineering change requests (ECRs) where appropriate
  • Participate in internal and outside supplier certifications and audits, as required
  • Coordinate swat team activities, including participating in daily swat team conference calls, and reporting and elevating swat team issues that have the potential to affect the sales and completions goals of the company
