Job summary

NorFab Metal and Machine is seeking a Manual Machinist to produce parts on conventional lathes and milling machines per blueprints and diagrams. You will read drawings, set up equipment, measure parts for tolerances, and ensure quality while communicating with the shop team.

Responsibilities include interpreting specifications, adjusting machines for tolerance, and performing quality checks. The ideal candidate has a strong work ethic and can work with minimal supervision in a dynamic shop

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent; four-year apprenticeship or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications and understand geometric tolerancing.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (written and spoken).
  • Basic math skills including geometry and algebra for fabrication calculations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Study drawings, blueprints, manuals, specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Set up machining equipment to standards for tooling used.
  • Verify dimensions with precision measuring instruments.
  • Coordinate with supervisor and shop personnel to resolve machining or quality issues.
  • Operate and maintain machine tools for precision non-repetitive operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

NorFab Metal and Machine is a dynamic corporation specializing in thecustom manufacture and repair of equipment and consumables for the mining,forestry and industrial industries. Thecompany has completed its 3rd major expansion since its inceptionover 302 years ago, serves industries domestically, nationally andinternationally and is CWB certified as well as ISO registered. We are currently seeking resumes for thefollowing full-time position:

MANUALMACHINIST

The General Machinist is responsible forcreating quality parts produced on various machines such as but not limited toconventional engine lathes and milling machines and general shop equipmentaccording to company plans, blueprints, and other diagrams. Responsibilitieswill include reading and interpreting blueprints and manuals to determineproduction processes and requirements and inspection of quality parts forconformance to requirements. The General Machinist will detect equipmentmalfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machines, withincapabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality ofproduction, and report all machine malfunctions to their immediate supervisor.

Job Duties
  • Study andinterpret drawings, blueprints, manuals, specifications or sample parts todetermine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence ofoperations, tools to be used, materials for the job and setuprequirements.
  • Set upmachining equipment utilized by the organization in order to ensureequipment operations at accepted standards for the type of tooling beingused.
  • Provideverification of dimensions of machined parts using precision measuring instruments.
  • Communicatewith supervisor, production control, quality and other shop personnel forassignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
  • Set up,operate and maintain a variety of machine tools to perform precision,non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling,boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations.
  • May performother duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
  • High SchoolDiploma, GED or equivalent or Post-secondary diploma or certification in arelated field preferred or completion of a four-year apprenticeshipprogram or a combination of over four years of work experience in thetrade and some college or industry courses in machining.
  • Intermediateknowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and theapplication of such instruments. Instruments should include but notlimited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators andscales.
  • Intermediateknowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an intermediateunderstanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions.
  • Intermediateknowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, insertsand other accessories used on various machines.
  • Must be ableto follow written and oral instructions and be able to communicate inEnglish (both written/oral) as it relates to job.
  • Must beadaptable to a changing work environment.
  • Must possessbasic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting,multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for the purpose calculatingmaterial fabrication.
  • Ability todetect, isolate, and identify irregularities and malfunctions in machineryand equipment.
  • Able tofabricate new parts to replace defective parts during machine setup,maintenance, or overhaul.
  • Demonstratedaptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics,drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Strong workethic and positive team attitude with the ability to work independentlywith little supervision.
Work Conditions
  • Ability tolift and carry objects up to 50 lbs., manual dexterity required, ble toremain standing for long periods of time.
  • Overtime asrequired, use of PPE, including safety glasses and steel toe bootsrequired.
  • Able toremain standing for long periods of time.
