Job summary

Norcan Hydraulic Turbine Inc. in Ontario, Canada is seeking a skilled machinist to operate and program CNC equipment, read engineering drawings, and set up lathes and boring mills in a fast-paced shop.

Qualifications

Job description

Under minimum supervision, performs the duties listed below with complete competence.

TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blue prints, charts, and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and layout work pieces
  • Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled CNC tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations
  • Fit and assemble machined metal/composite parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • Set up and program CNC machine with MasterCam
  • Handling of large components according to safe practices, overhead crane and/or forklift
  • Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety protocols
  • Perform routine maintenance on machinery and troubleshoot any issues that arise during production

REQUIRED WORKING KNOWLEDGE
  • Norcan’s current programs and services, proprietary systems, company policies and goals
  • Operating of Lathe, Vertical and Horizontal Boring Mills, CNC Equipment
  • Using Precision Measuring equipment
  • Microsoft Office / MasterCam / Solidworks PDM
  • ISO Standards as they apply to Design and Manufacturing
  • Hoisting & Rigging, WHMIS and other shop safety programs
  • First Aid
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • 5 years relevant experience in the field or in a related area
EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • College Machining course and 4-year apprenticeship program
  • Red Seal
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ASSOCIATED HAZARDS
  • Working in a shop, PPE required
  • Lifting and transporting heavy equipment
