Job description

Reporting To: VP, People & Operations

Purpose: To enable BC Parks Foundation to work smarter by ensuring its technology and systems are secure, well-managed, and aligned to organizational goals — connecting people, tools, and expertise to drive efficiency and impact across the organization.

Overview

BC Parks Foundation is the official charitable partner and conservation financing mechanism to British Columbia’s world-class system of parks and protected areas. Our role is to build a diverse and active community of support. Our mission is to create the greatest system of parks and Indigenous protected areas in the world.

We Are:
  • A charitable, purpose-driven organization passionate about enjoying and protecting nature in British Columbia
  • People who value spark, respect with caring, reciprocity, and greatness
  • A warm, positive, hard-working team who operate in a spirit of gratitude and celebration
  • Connected to a wide variety of community groups, First Nations, businesses, governments and other partners
You Are:
  • A connector and translator — someone who understands technology deeply enough to ask the right questions, and communicates clearly enough to bring non-technical colleagues along
  • Organized and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple projects, vendors, and priorities without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Curious about emerging technology, including AI, and energized by finding practical ways to apply it in a mission-driven environment
  • Someone who knows when to roll up your sleeves and when to bring in the right expert
  • A collaborative team player who builds trust across the organization and makes people feel supported, not managed
Role Summary

The Manager, Technology & Systems is responsible for ensuring that BCPF’s technology and systems are secure, effective, and aligned with the needs of a growing organization. This is not an in-house IT or systems administration role — it is an operational and connective function for someone who understands the technology landscape, can identify the right tools and partners, and works across teams to ensure technology genuinely enables the Foundation’s work.

The role spans governance, software portfolio management, infrastructure oversight, and technology projects including AI and automation. The Manager works closely with staff at all levels to understand their needs, support good decision-making, and ensure the Foundation is getting the most from its technology investments.

Responsibilities

The Manager, Technology & Systems is responsible for:

Governance
  • Support the delivery of BCPF’s technology strategy, ensuring technology investments align with and enable the Foundation’s operational and strategic goals
  • Manage the technology roadmap and annual technology budget, tracking progress and adjusting priorities as needs evolve
  • Lead the process for evaluating and approving new technology requests
  • Manage cybersecurity and data privacy risks, including the creation of policies, optimization of security solutions and delivery of staff training
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, providing recommendations for adoption where relevant
Software Management
  • Proactively manage BCPF’s software portfolio, optimizing for effectiveness, fit, and cost
  • Manage software vendors and contracts, ensuring value for money and appropriate service levels
  • Ensure enterprise software is adopted consistently across teams, with shared practices and processes; provide access to training and best practices for core shared platforms
Technology Projects & Infrastructure
  • Partner with teams across the organization to define problems, map processes, and identify technology solutions that meet their needs
  • Support software discovery, selection, and implementation projects, knowing when to lead and when to bring in specialist expertise
  • Support the optimization of existing software to improve efficiency and user experience
  • Lead the ongoing management and optimization of SharePoint as BCPF’s primary information management platform, ensuring alignment across teams on how information is stored, shared, and accessed, and maintaining appropriate privacy and access controls
  • Identify and implement AI solutions and automations that improve workflow efficiency for teams across the Foundation, supporting staff in building confidence with new tools
  • Manage BCPF's relationship with the managed IT services provider and oversee the Microsoft 365 environment, ensuring infrastructure remains secure, reliable, and fit for purpose across in-office, remote, and hybrid working; manage office equipment and staff hardware requests
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience managing technology systems and software portfolios in a multi-stakeholder environment, including Microsoft Office 365 administration and SSO deployment
  • Demonstrated experience with ERP and/or CRM platforms, including implementation or optimization; familiarity with Salesforce is an asset
  • Experience with AI tools and automation, and a practical understanding of how to apply them in an organizational context
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and competing priorities
  • Experience managing vendors and external service providers
  • Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and build trust across teams
  • Experience in the non-profit or charitable sector is an asset but not required
Commitment to Equity

  • Preference may be given to qualified Indigenous candidates or those from or with experience of other diverse cultures
  • Those identifying as being part of groups which are underrepresented or facing barriers to the labour market are encouraged to apply
Work Environment

  • The position will work on a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week in the Vancouver office
