Job summary

North Vancouver Recreation & Culture is seeking a Dance Instructor to lead programs for adults, youth and children. You will plan and teach developmentally appropriate dance classes, prepare music and choreography, and guide warm ups, skill development and routines in a creative, safe setting.

Applicants should have dance experience and at least 1 year teaching others, with Emergency First Aid and HIGH FIVE certifications, plus Police Information Check.

ABOUT YOU

You are a team player committed to community. You will plan and instruct developmentally appropriate dance classes, and prepare your own music and choreography. Classes will include warm up, skill development and dance routines. You will be working in a creative environment utilizing your leadership and people skills while maintaining a safe environment to engage students to expand their interest in dance. You are an excellent communicator with a positive, energetic and enthusiastic attitude.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

• In-depth knowledge of dance techniques and forms
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong organizational and supervisory skills
• Proven ability to create and implement lesson plans
• Ability to build a rapport with students, parents of students, and staff
• Some knowledge of community recreation principles and practices
• Ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Candidates must have experience in their chosen dance form and 1 year teaching experience. All instructors working with children must have a current Emergency First Aid certificate and HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development training (available online through BCRPA). All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
