Overview

The Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global (and local country) independence standards. This role focuses on liaising with Partners and Staff across all lines of service about standards and policies related to independence, including those established by the SEC, PCAOB, CPA Code, and IESBA Code.

What You Will Do

1. Apply technical knowledge and expertise in Canadian, SEC, PCAOB, and IESBA auditor independence rules, as well as KPMG policies to support client engagement teams.
2. Assist in managing the review and approval workflow for assessing services permissibility for audit clients.
3. Evaluate the firm’s independence and relationships concerning its existing and prospective audit clients using research, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
4. Provide consultations to KPMG partners and teams across Canada on auditor independence issues.
5. Guide client engagement teams in completing independence clearance procedures.
6. Develop and update independence policies, processes, and tools to ensure compliance and best practices.
7. Promote audit quality, risk management, and independence policies within the firm.
8. Assist in preparing technical alerts, guidance, training materials, and other deliverables.
9. Supervise team members on independence requests and tasks.
10. Manage projects and identify process improvements.

What You Bring To The Role

• At least five years of client service experience in independence, audit, or risk management roles within a professional services environment.
• A professional accounting (CPA) or risk qualification.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, with prompt and professional responsiveness.
• Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Initiative and organizational skills.
• Experience responding to complex inquiries, conducting research, analyzing data, and documenting findings.
• Excellent time management, independence, and collaboration skills.
• Strong business writing and communication skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to work under deadlines and confidently handle senior interactions.
• Leadership and relationship management skills, focusing on coaching and trust-building.
• Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information appropriately.
• Fluency in English, both written and oral.

The position supports Risk Management for KPMG nationally, requiring documentation and collaboration in English.

Pay Range and Benefits

The base salary range is $73,000 to $109,500, with potential for bonuses. Compensation depends on location, skills, and qualifications. KPMG offers a comprehensive Total Rewards program.
