The Independence Group ensures the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global (and local country) independence standards. This role focuses on liaising with Partners and Staff across all lines of service regarding standards and policies related to independence, including those established by the SEC, PCAOB, CPA Code, and IESBA Code.

What You Will Do
  • Apply technical knowledge and subject matter expertise in Canadian, SEC, PCAOB, and IESBA auditor independence rules, as well as KPMG policies, to support client engagement teams.
  • Assist in managing the design and implementation of review and approval workflows for assessing services permissibility for audit clients.
  • Employ research, critical thinking, and analytical skills to evaluate the firm’s independence and relationships concerning current and prospective audit clients.
  • Provide consultations to KPMG partners and teams across Canada on auditor independence issues.
  • Guide client engagement teams in completing engagement acceptance and independence clearance procedures.
  • Develop and update independence policies, processes, and tools to ensure ongoing compliance and best practices.
  • Promote commitment to audit quality, risk management, and independence policies within the firm.
  • Prepare technical alerts, guidance, training materials, and other deliverables for distribution across the firm.
  • Supervise team members on independence requests and related tasks.
  • Manage projects and identify process improvements.
What You Bring To The Role
  • Minimum five years of client service experience in independence, audit, or risk management roles within a professional services environment.
  • Professional accounting (CPA) or risk qualification.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, diligent, with prompt and professional response skills.
  • Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Initiative and strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in handling complex inquiries, research, data analysis, and documentation.
  • Excellent time management, independent and collaborative work abilities.
  • Exceptional business writing and communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and confidently interact with senior executives.
  • Leadership and relationship management skills, with a focus on coaching and trust-building.
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information appropriately.
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral, supporting collaboration with English-speaking colleagues.

The salary range for this position in BC is $73,000 to $109,500, potentially with bonuses. Compensation depends on location, skills, and qualifications. KPMG offers a comprehensive Total Rewards program.
