Overview
At KPMG, you’ll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.

The Independence Group helps ensure the firm and its personnel are in compliance with Professional, Regulatory, and KPMG Global (and local country) independence standards. This role focuses on liaising with Partners and Staff regarding standards and policies related to independence, including those by the SEC, PCAOB, CPA Code, and IESBA Code.

What You Will Do
  1. Apply technical knowledge of Canadian, SEC, PCAOB, and IESBA auditor independence rules, and KPMG policies to support client engagement teams;
  2. Assist in managing review and approval workflows for assessing service permissibility for audit clients;
  3. Use research and analytical skills to evaluate the firm’s independence and relationships with audit clients;
  4. Consult with KPMG partners and teams across Canada on independence issues;
  5. Guide client engagement teams in independence clearance procedures;
  6. Develop and update independence policies, processes, and tools to ensure compliance and best practices;
  7. Promote commitment to audit quality, risk management, and independence policies;
  8. Prepare technical alerts, guidance, training materials, and distribute across the firm;
  9. Supervise team members on independence requests and tasks;
  10. Manage projects and identify process improvements.
What You Bring To The Role
  • At least five years of client service experience in independence, audit, or risk management, preferably in a professional services firm;
  • A professional accounting (CPA) or risk qualification;
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and professional in responding to requests;
  • Strong research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
  • Initiative and organizational skills;
  • Experience in handling complex inquiries and analyzing data;
  • Excellent time management and ability to work independently and in teams;
  • Strong business writing and communication skills;
  • Ability to work under deadlines and interact with senior executives;
  • Leadership and relationship management skills;
  • Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately;
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral.

This role supports Risk Management for KPMG nationally, requiring English language proficiency for documentation and collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range is $73,000 to $109,500, with potential bonuses, based on location, skills, and qualifications. KPMG offers a comprehensive Total Rewards program.
