Job description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Our Line Extensions Group is looking for a Manager to oversee the development design approval and of various Construction projects for Line Extensions. This manager will actively lead all activities to ensure achievement of objectives according to defined timelines budget and approved project deliverables

What will I be doing

  • Manages relationships with external consultants contractors and vendors to ensure performance and products / services meet contractual agreements.
  • Lead the team by example by following best practices with respect to project management and controlling scope budget schedule and quality
  • Analyze work activities to identify opportunities for efficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Consult with provincial ministries municipalities external authorities Class 1 railway partners private companies and the public to facilitate the advancement of capital projects.
  • Manages project progress analyses current and future work activities to identify deficiencies and opportunities for efficiencies; recommends and implements solutions
  • Monitors project safety to mitigate risk ensure compliance with policies and procedures and initiate improvements resolutions and / or preventative measures
  • Integrates multiple corporate requirements into projects including technical design environmental assessment conditions community and municipal commitments Passenger Charter design excellence and property acquisition conditions; analyzing potential conflicts delays or issues resulting from integration of corporate requirements with overall project plan
  • Monitors project work to warranty that the proper protection is followed in accordance with railway operating rules
  • Conducts regular site meetings to discuss progress and resolve issues
  • Directly manages 25 employees in project teams performing related tasks

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in applied science engineering construction railway engineering or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent
  • Valid Professional Engineering . license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) (Certified Technician) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Completion of qualifications in the Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) and the Metrolinx Personal Track Safety (PTS) course is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience working in railway corridor infrastructure and related construction
  • Understands theories principles and practices of civil and railway construction in an active railway corridor.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills to evaluate and address contractor and supplier performance issues and recommend plans for improvement; to evaluate and address program impediments with the potential to disrupt or jeopardize the project and / or corporate objectives
  • Knowledge of System Engineering and Safety Assurance processes is an asset
  • Demonstrated project management experience related to the planning design and constructionand assurance of heavy passenger rail transit systems in an urban environment and / or brown field transit facilities station infrastructure and related works
  • Experience in construction management procurement and field engineering are all strong assets
  • Experience in a consulting / professional services environment is an asset
  • A valid Ontario Class G drivers license is required to travel to various site locations meetings operational facilities etc. (approximately 10. Must meet and maintain the corporate standard for a good driving record
