Job summary

Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a Product Control professional to support Central Funding, performing daily mark-to-market valuation, P&L reporting and reconciliation. You will liaise across Front Office, Middle Office, IT, and other units to facilitate trading activities and daily P&L production.

Responsibilities include P&L production/reconciliation, monthly G/L entries, and audit support, with 6:30am login for London Desk coverage. Requires 4+ years in Product Control and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

• University degree required.
• Product Control or related experience minimum 4 years.
• Experience with Cash Funding products (Repos/RevRepos).
• Strong Excel and investment product knowledge.
• Able to work under pressure with strong communication skills.
• Advanced understanding of trading systems and workflows.

Responsibilities

• Produce P&L and balance sheet reconciliations daily.
• Liaise with Front Office, Middle Office and IT to support trading.
• Prepare monthly G/L entries and reconcile against records.
• Identify irregularities and escalate to senior management.
• Support audit requests from internal/external auditors.
• Cover London Desk with 6:30am login when required.

Job description

What is the Opportunity?

Provide quality support to the Central Funding business by performing daily mark-to-market valuation, P&L reporting and reconciliation on an accurate and timely basis. Liaise with Front Office, Middle Office, Information Technology, Trading Processing, Financial Control and other operating units to facilitate trading activities and daily P&L production.

What will you do?

• Accountable for the P&L production and analysis across within a platform or multiple platforms across the bank
• Inform senior management of any irregularities that may present potential exposure to the firm
• Prepare all monthly accounting entries to the G/L and conduct reconciliations to ensure figures are properly tied back to the systems of record
• Work closely with all members of the Product Control team, providing guidance and cross training when required
• Identify opportunities to improve valuation reports and pro-actively streamline processes to improve productivity
• Perform daily PNL and Balance Sheet reconciliations to ensure figures are properly tied back to the systems of records
• Maintain a solid knowledge base of how various asset classes are handled by the Front Office systems
• Provide information to satisfy audit requests from both internal and external auditors
• Develop an understanding of RBC operations and the functions of various business units across the firm
• Pro-actively monitor all operational issues pertaining to the trading portfolios assigned
• The role involves covering London Desk so login would be 6:30am

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

• University Degree
• Product Control experience
• Experience with Cash Funding products (Repos/RevRepos)
• Product knowledge with various other assets classes (IRS's and bonds)
• Minimum 4 years of Product Control or related experience
• Excellent Excel Skills
• Good understanding of Investment products
• Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to work effectively and reliably under pressure
• Advanced understanding of procedures and operational controls as they relate to trading systems and workflows
• Strong ability to work independently with minimal guidance from manager
